It's that time of year again, the little ones want to dress up for Halloween, and you are looking for some place to take them, well if you live in Homosassa, Crystal River, or Inverness, Florida or in surrounding towns I have found a few places that you may like and will be enjoyable and "scary" for the whole family.
One of the events in Citrus County is at the Homosassa Wild Life Park in Homosassa, Florida there will be "Haunted Tram Rides" on October 24 and 25. The park is asking for a $5.00 donation for riding the haunted tram if you are 13 years old and older, and $3.00 for children. There will also be a haunted house for $2.00 a person. There will be games, a costume contest, and clowns. If you are looking to get identification done on your child, this will be a good time because the Citrus County Sheriff's department will also be there. Get there early it will be a day of fun for the whole family (Florida Online Park Guide, Homosassa Wildlife State Park).
In Crystal River, at the Crystal River Preserve State Park on October 24 and 25 from 7 pm to 10 pm there will be a haunted tram ride through the woods, a boat ride, and a haunted house. There will be food available if you are able to eat after being scared. The fees are $8.00 if you are an adult and children are $5.00 the money goes to the Friends Group (Florida Online Park Guide, Special Events for Crystal River Preserve State Park).
Have you wanted to see a castle, well why not check out "Castle Keep Resort" it is located at the Citrus County Auditorium. They are having a haunted house on October 24th, 25th, 30th, and 31st. If you are looking for a scare you would go on October 24th, 30th, 31st, and November 1st. Now, if you can't handle being scared or are under 13 you can go on their non-scary days. The non-scary days are October 25th and 31st. You can check out their website (www.castlekeepresort.com) for more information and to see how it was last year (Castle Keep Resort). If your child likes to color there is a coloring contest with a deadline of October 17, 2008. All your child has to do is draw a costume on "Parker" and be creative (http://www.citruscountyfl.org/events/coloring_contest.pdf) then fill out the name and address at the bottom of the page and mail it. There are prizes the children could win and they include free passes to games at the haunted house and "a family pass" for free entry into the haunted house (Citrus County Florida, (2008), Creative Coloring Contest).
The Cooter Festival will be going on in Inverness Saturday October 25th and on Sunday October 26th. On Sunday between 12 pm and 4 pm they will be having the "Great American Cooterween" costume contest. You have to register for the contest and that is between 12 pm to 1 pm. There will be activities for everyone; from pony rides to craft vendors (Cooter Festival, Great American Cooterween).
If you don't mind driving about an hour south of Citrus County to Tampa, Florida you could go to Lowry Park. The Event is called "Zoo Boo" and it is a big "Halloween festival." They have attractions that are so scary you have to be at least 10 years old. There are other events that are somewhat scary to scary enough for everyone to enjoy. They currently have tickets available from October 3 through November 1 (Lowry Park Zoo, Zoo Boo Attractions).
Citrus County Florida has some great events going on for Halloween; so get the family together and enjoy the food, contests, games, scary events, and live entertainment.
