Living in Sarasota, Florida, I used to find it hard to find any haunted houses or events but luckily there are some great places within reach. There is Howl-o-Scream at Bush Gardens in Tampa, Halloween Horror nights at Universal Studios in Orlando and many great events in Key West.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time, or the money to go father then Ruskin or Venice. So, for those that live in the Venice, Sarasota or Bradenton area, I think these events will sound appealing to you.

Hunsader Farms Pumpkin Festival

The first I would like to mention is the Pumpkin Festival at Hunsader Farms. Located right on CR 675 on Bradenton, Florida, it is very easy to find but be prepared for a bit of a drive. The pumpkin festival is open on Weekends through the month of October from 9am-5pm. There are plenty of things to do for both kids and adults. There are 100+ Craft Booths, Live Country Music , Pumpkins (of course), Charity Pumpkin Games, Pioneer Trades Village, Hayrides, Pony Rides , Chainsaw Sculpting, Corn Maze, Scarecrow Displays, Homemade Ice Cream, Farm Roasted Sweet Corn, food Galore, Pumpkins Galore, Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin Cannon, Corn Cannons and plenty more. Admission is $7 per person and children the age of 12 and under are free. Parking is $5, so make sure to carpool! http://hunsaderfarms.com/

Sarasota 2nd annual Pumpkin festival

The Sarasota Pumpkin Festival is going to be located at Sarasota County Fairgrounds‎ this year. It will run from October 29th-31st and will be open all 3 days from noon-10pm. Entrance fee is 5 dollars a person and any child under the age of 10 is free. You can also get a 3 day pass for only 10 dollars. All the proceeds will benefit All Children's Hospital. This event is great if you want to support a great cause and have a great time! There are free hay rides, pumpkin carving, a petting zoo, pig races, food vendors, carnival rides, various shows, a "not so scary" haunted house and a "scary" haunted house for the adults and much more. http://sarasotapumpkinfestival.com

Tomb of Terror

The founders of The Tomb of Terror have over 15 years of experience creating haunted house attractions and are very highly regarded in the Sarasota community. They recently moved into their new location of 5947 clark road, Sarasota, Florida 34231 at Livingstons. You can check out their myspace at http://www.myspace.com/tombofterrorhauntedhouse and http://livingstonsamusements.com/ .

5TH ANNUAL BOO FEST

Go to the 5th Annual Boo Fest at Hydro Harvest Farms on SATURDAY OCTOBER 23, 2010. It is going to be fun for all ages and it's free! You can go to http://www.hydroharvestfarms.com/ for more information.

The House of Terror

Now the House of Terror is something I have been a fan of for several years. It is located on Bahia Vista in Sarasota. It is held in the Pal Sailor Circus Arena at Sarasota High School. Admission is 10 dollars per person. This is a haunted house and the scare factor is very scary. It's not appropriate for anyone under the age of 13 or the faint of heart. Hours of Operation are from 7-11pm. Operation days are 21,22,23,28,29,30,31.

There are multiple elevation changes, there will be actors jumping out at you from all directions, real shotguns, actors jumping from 30 feet in the air and much more. For the most part, the actors are all high school students from the Sailor Circus. I highly recommend this haunted house.
