Walk with the Spirits: Downtown City Tour
www.nwghosttours.com
Cost: $10 for adults, $8 for children 13 and under
Length: 20 block walking tour, approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.
Call for reservations: (503)679-4464
Also put on by NW Ghost Tours, the Downtown City Tour delves into the haunted history behind the businesses of Oregon City. Beginning at the Oregon City Elevator which is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young boy, the tour immediately delves into the "bumps in the night" that have resulted from centuries of city expansion.
McLoughlin House
www.mcloughlinhouse.org
Cost: Free admission
Length: 2 historic homes, approximately 45 minutes.
Regular hours: Wednesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm, Sunday 1pm to 4pm.
Although the McLoughlin house and the adjoining Barclay House have been converted into historical museums, both are said to be quite haunted. The McLoughlin house, built in 1845, and the Barclay house, built in 1849, have both seen their fair share of history in the making. Although they may not mention it on the museum tour, it seems that the residents of over one and a half centuries ago still linger. While touring, keep your eyes open for rocking chairs that rock on their own as well as apparitions of men, women and children.
Whether you choose to meet the unseen residents of the McLaughlin House or follow a trail of invisible footsteps down the city streets, a haunted tour is a delightfully spooky way to spend Halloween. Be sure to book your reservation early as slots fill up quickly for the Halloween tours. If you miss out, don't worry - all tours are available year-round for tours and hauntings.
