Halloween and My Love for Horror Flicks

Donna Cavanagh
Some people detest Halloween
It's one of my favorite times of the year
Scary movies live on the television screen
Ready to make me scream with fear

I don't know why I love horror flicks
They hold my interest from beginning to end
It is true I am a coward and turn away from the gore
My sofa pillow becomes my comforting best friend

The old time suspense flicks are my favorite
Along with Dracula, the Wolfman, Frankenstein and his bride
Alfred Hitchcock makes me look at my neighbors
Wondering what diabolic secrets they hide

I love how the music sets the mood
And warns me when things are beginning to go awry
Girls start screaming and guys start running
But alas, in horror movies, the characters must die

I yell at the actors on the screen
To avoid certain rooms and doors
I've seen the same movies over and over
I know they don't hear me; they never have before

I tell myself not to watch these flicks
Late at night or when I am alone
For every sound makes me jump in terror
And my imagination begins to hear whispers and moans

But a little fear won't drive me away
From the monsters that go bump in the night
Apparitions are always welcome in my house
As long as they are part of a fictional tale of fright

I can't decide if I like them or not. I think it's only after they are over that I can handle it. I never willingly go to see them.

The dying part of a horror film is predictable. The part I don't like is when the movie ends leaving you hanging. Hate that!

I don't watch as many horror movies as I used to. Fun poem :)
