Halloween is Magic at Walt Disney World with Mickey's Not so Scary Halloween Party

Inside Tricks for Enjoying the Scariest Most Magical Party of the Year

Paula Lamie
Disney World is known for throwing some of the best parties around. One of my favorites is Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party or MNSSHP to those in the know. The MNSSHP is usually held on certain nights between the middle of September until the beginning of November.

Tickets for this insanely popular event are available ahead of time but do not include park admission. This shouldn't come as a surprise because Disney doesn't come cheap. Although I always find that my visits to the Mouse are worth every penny. Anyone not wearing the special wristband will be ushered out of the park starting around 6:00pm.

The Halloween party is held in the Magic Kingdom from 7:00pm to the witching hour, 12:00am.

Halloween here is Disney Style so your children won't be seeing any chainsaws or hockey masks. You can feel confident that the most timid of toddlers will have an enjoyable evening.

Main Street is transformed by large witches, bats and ghosts that are projected onto the buildings.

The scary shapes fly across storefronts and swoop down the street ushering you into the party.

Adult and children are welcome to come in appropriate costume. There is ample Trick-or-Treating around the Magic Kingdom as costumed Disney cast members are thickly scattered about to give you treats. Large pumpkin balloons that sport Mickey Mouse's face indicate where you can load up on loot. Skip long candy lines because is waiting for a candy bar more important than going to the Haunted Mansion? You will never miss skipping one or two candy stops as there is too much to do in one night anyway.

Trick or Treat locations include:

Disney's Days of Christmas

Disney's Pin Traders

Disney's Wonderful World of Memories

Disney Quest

Goofy's Candy Company

Mickey's Groove

Mickey's Pantry

Once Upon a Toy

Pooh Corner

West Side Pin Cart

World of Disney

Since ticket holders are the only guests allowed into the park you don't have to line up with the general public for the rides. Most of the rides are walk ons or have a very short wait. Many small children prefer the Magic Kingdom so this is their chance to get their fill of riding Dumbo, Peter Pan and Winnie the Pooh. But since this is a Halloween party you need to visit the Haunted Mansion and make sure to get your souvenir photo taken outside the ride.

For those of us who love watching their favorite Disney characters on parade, there is Mickey's Boo-To-You Halloween Parade. The parade route is crowded as usual so be sure to grab a seat early. They do have two parade times and traditionally the later time is less crowded. Just make sure you can catch the beginning. You will never forget the sight and sounds of the Headless Horseman as he thunders down the street, looking for lost souls.

Disney wouldn't miss a chance to have fireworks so instead of Wishes we can experience the Happy Hallowishes display. Hallowishes was created specially for this event and was introduced in 2005. Cinderella Castle is transformed into a spooky green haunted house and is surrounded by dramatic flashes of red and green fireworks. The music is spooky and pay homage to Disney's spookiest creations such as the Haunted Mansion and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Warning: If you child is scared of the regular wishes then this show will definitely be too loud and spooky for them. Stick with Dumbo!

If you are an avid autograph collector then Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party may give you a chance to see some rare characters. Make sure to visit the usual character stops as some villans you never see outside of parades are set loose in public for this night only.

So if you want to see how Disney works their magic for Halloween then make sure to buy advance tickets because it is very, very popular party. As it should be because Disney makes everything magical.
