Halloween Party Food and Treats for the Family

Quick Fixes to Turn Everyday Foods into Fall Party Fare

Marie Anne St. Jean
You've decided on games and activities for your Halloween or Harvest Party, but what about eats to feed the ghouls and goblins? Think pumpkin, for starters.

Pumpkin Pizza

Use your favorite frozen pizza or make your own, then turn it into Halloween or Harvest party fare with a few simple additions. Pepperoni, mushrooms, olives and sliced jalapenos can become eyeballs and a triangular wedge of cheese makes a great nose. Red or green pepper slices or hot dogs can be fashioned into a smile or snaggle toothed grin.

Soups, Dips and Relish Tray

Chips and pretzels are easy party foods, but make them fit the fall season by serving dips from small pumpkins and gourds that have been hollowed out and washed. Peanut butter served from a cored apple is perfect for dipping pretzel rods or celery sticks.

Soup, chili or stew can be ladled from larger pumpkins that have been washed of seeds.

Giant Pumpkin Cookie

Giant chocolate chip cookies are expensive to buy ready-made and it's just as easy to fix one at home. Roll out your favorite chocolate chip or sugar cookie dough onto a round pizza pan and bake until lightly browned. When cooled, frost with a thin layer of orange tinted icing, or pipe decorative icing around the edges. Use candy corn, licorice nibs or fruit rollups to make eyes, nose and toothy grin to complete the Jack-o-Lantern look.

Even a pan of brownies from a box can become a main attraction at your fall festival with the simple fixes that Lisa Riggs mentions in her article.
