Invitations have been sent out, decorations have been bought, the costumes are ready and your kids are as excited as all get out. Your hosting a Halloween party! Halloween parties are more than just costumes and spooky decorations, your guest need to be entertained. Planning activities for your Halloween party can be tricky, but there are many games that can make your party fun and exciting.

Traditional Games

There are many games that have been around for almost as long as Halloween and still entertain just as well as they did the day they were first played. Create a spooky Halloween themed Scavenger hunt. Use plastic skeletons and other decorations like that as your hunted items. Make up printed lists of the items that need to be found and send the kids out into the yard to hunt the items you have hidden. Once all the hidden items have been found the child who located the most items can be rewarded with a prize.

Bobbing for apples is another Halloween past time many of us enjoyed. However, many parents don't want their kids playing this game anymore because they are concerned over the spread of germs. A modern take on this game that is virtually germ free will have your kids laughing until the cows come home. Take a long stick or broom handle and tie long strings to it evenly spaced out. At the end of each string attach a donut. Have the kids line up and have two adults hold the broom handle with the donuts above the kids. Move it up and down while the kids try and eat their donuts. The first child to finish their donut wins.

Modern Games

Making toilet paper mummys is another fun Halloween party game. Have the children separate in to groups of two and give the each a roll of toilet paper. Set a timer and have them race to see which pair can make the best toilet paper mummy. one child will wrap the other will be mummified! The group with the best mummy wins a prize.

Kids love games like musical chairs and freeze dance. Buy a tape or CD of Halloween music and play Halloween freeze dance or musical chairs.Have the kids dance or go round and round the chairs. when the music stops whoever is moving or not in a chair is out. The last kid standing wins! The kids will love dancing to the monster mash in their Halloween costumes!

Children love being creative and silly, so Halloween charades is perfect for a kids Halloween party. Use index cards to right down the names of common Halloween costumes and characters. Have the kids split in to two teams. On each teams turn, one team member will stand up and act out the character from the card they have drawn. They have one minute to do so. After all the cards have been used the team with the most guessed wins.

There are so many things that can make a Halloween party a smashing success. Costume parades and contests are always fun. Decorating pumpkins is great too! Planning Halloween activities for your party that allow children to be silly, creative and put on their thinking caps is your best bet. Having enough activities for your Halloween party is essential to it being successful. Keeping the kids moving from one activity to the next will prevent boredom, because when it comes to kids idle hands really are the devils tools!
