Halloween Party Idea - Make a Thriller Video!

Assemble Your Own Scary Cast of Ghouls on October 31st

Jan Peterson
A perfect idea for a Halloween party this year is to remake the famous Thriller video, using your friends and family members dressed up in their best ghoulish Halloween costumes! Hold a pre-video party, shoot the actual filming once the werewolves are beginning to howl at the full moon, and then post the Halloween video on your favorite social website or a public broadcast site such as YouTube. YouTube's Handbook is a helpful guide to review prior to the party, to learn about the best formats, camera moves, lighting, etc.

On your Halloween invitations to the party, announce your intent to shoot the video and ask that all the guests watch Michael Jackson's Thriller video and come dressed as their best zombie self. I guarantee you that many of your Halloween guests will come with ideas that will help your remake even better than the original!

Thriller Halloween Pre-production Video Party

Hold a lavish pre-video party, held in your spookiest place. Decorate in early graveyard, with all the typical Halloween props: a fog machine, spider webs stretched from ceiling to floor or across the patio and grave stones. For inspiration on Halloween decorating ideas and how-to make the scariest stuff, visit the website, Monsterlist of Halloween Projects.

The Monsterlist website is truly amazing! There are ideas, instructions and pictures or videos to make countless Halloween props, for instance: a $30 Mummy, $20 Fog Chiller, an eerily accurate replica of the Alien (as in the movie), aliens in jars, easy but realistic "baby spiders, bloody cutting board, fresh graves, plans for making a guillotine, realistic guts, skeleton hands; the list seems endless! I'd venture to guess that you can find instructions to make any scary prop you might be looking for, as well as others you hadn't thought of!

Serve your Halloween monsters and zombies all the typical ghoulish Halloween food. Eyeball and finger hors d'oeuvres, Hairball salad with spit dressing, body part cupcakes.; create a bubbling drink brew by placing a cast iron cauldron filled with punch inside a spider web covered tub spewing fog from dry ice or a fog device.. Recipes for scary foods can be found at Halloween Spook Central, Divine Dinner Party's Gross Recipes for Halloween, and Rexanne's Halloween Website.

Play Spooky tunes and, of course, Michael Jackson's Thriller CD during the party and periodically play the Thriller video. Assemble the group to watch the video a few times right before the actual video recording begins.

Halloween Action - Shoot the Thriller Video!

Since you'll be the producer, be sure to watch Michael Jackson's Thriller video enough in advance of the party to be familiar with the key moves you want from the Thriller actors/dancers before the video event. You'll need the Thriller song, some lighting and a lot of energy!

When the time is right, gather the party group and review the video one last time and ask for input or questions. When everyone's ready, start the video recording. You may need to record it a few times to make sure you will have enough footage to create the final and best production of the video. You can usually put the final video to the Thriller song through the video software program itself, rather than depending on the music playing during the shoot.

After the video-taping, let your Thriller Halloween party take its course to its bloody end, but be sure to get everyone's email address so you can send them the final video and notify them when it posts to the internet.

Posting Your Halloween Thriller Video Recording to the Internet

Once you've completed your edited video, you can post it to your Facebook or MySpace page and, if you decide to upload this Halloween video for the world to see, on YouTube. You'll need to set up an account with YouTube, and then upload the video.

Who knows, maybe your production could go viral! That would be a Halloween Thriller, would it?
