Halloween Party Songs - Country Style

The Best Country Songs for Halloween

K. Bellamy
If the latest ghouls and ghosts, vampires and zombie songs haven't thrilled you enough for your Halloween Party, then don't forget to throw in some country songs for Halloween. You'll find some old favorites you might have forgotten. What a grave error!

Seems like many of the songs here are several decades old. Hopefully, some of the new country stars will soon step up with some creepy music that will fit like a glove (or a shroud) for a Halloween party. In the meantime, here are a few of the classics.

Devil Went Down to Georgia - Charlie Daniels
This is the one country song for Halloween that everyone remembers, but just in case you forgot...

Legend of Woolly Swamp - Charlie Daniels
This one takes a back seat to The Devil Went Down to Georgia, but since I live near the Okefenokee Swamp, this one has special meaning. And gives me the shivers, too.

Digging Up Bones - Randy Travis
Pure country and perfect for the holiday. It's not easy to find songs about bones and the lyrics for this song work well for Halloween celebrations.

Sittin' Up with the Dead - Ray Stevens
A story song that will grab your attention from beginning to end.

Monster's Holiday - Buck Owens
An classic one from a classic country star and filled with references to Halloween.

Haunted House - T.G. Sheppard
This one has been recorded by several artists, but for a country Halloween, this is my favorite version.

Halloween Hootenanny - Jugmongers
Weird, just weird. That's about all you can say. But check it out. You might like it.

Midnight in Montgomery - Alan Jackson
A very spooky country Halloween song. Good for a slow dance.

Bubba Hyde - Diamond Rio
An upbeat song from one of the newer groups on this list.

Ghost Riders in the Sky - Johnny Cash
I never think of this one for Halloween, but it is perfect.

Long Black Veil - Tim O'Brien (Fiddler's Green Album)
This is a Johnny Cash classic, but I like the Tim O'Brien version for the eery fiddle. The New Riders of the Purple Sage also have a version on the Gypsy Cowboy album that would be good for two steppin'.

Those kings of country rock from a "few" years ago, The Eagles, have a few tunes you'll want to add to your country list. You can find some of their songs here:
