Halloween: A Poem Celebrating Halloween's Characteristics

Renee Day
A month or two before the snow

When pumpkins sprout and cool winds blow

When leaves blanket the fading ground

A special time of year comes 'round

The time of year for ghosts and ghouls

For tricks and treats and breaking rules

For pumpkins and their hollow grins

For people donning different skins

Yes, Halloween's a special night

When it's not rude to shriek with fright

You never know what might occur

From something clad in bones or fur

So be attentive please, I ask

Check close what lies beyond the mask

This night is not for us alone

We share it with all things that moan

All things that wail and scream and boo

But happy candy givers, too

A myriad of mirth and malice

Like wonderland to dear old Alice

So wear your mask or paint your face

Since spooky is this night's embrace

And when you're done, curl up in bed

Remember all you've heard and said

Shut tight your eyes, so you don't see

The wicked things that laugh with glee

Sleep long, sleep deep until the dawn

When fiends of Halloween have gone
