Halloween Poem: Friends of Halloween

Sue Ellen K.
The night is dark,
The falling leaves turn and sway
The children frolick, by and by
The ghoulish fiends
And fairiest of fairies
And bravest of gladiators
And those dressed to represent soldiers of
honor and war
The characters of the night
Carry on their mighty quest
Of obtaining the richest of goods
From strangers who become friends for the
night
At the cost of chocolate and candy.

The Irish used turnips as their "Jack's lanterns" originally. But when the immigrants came to America , they found that pumpkins were far more plentiful than turnips. So the Jack-O-Lantern in America was a hollowed-out pumpkin, lit with an ember.
