Halloween Poem: Gateway

Crissy Gottberg
The wicked laughter peels its way
Through the dismal murky rooms
Chittering demons with pitchforks play
And candles add mood to tombs

Walk quietly down the steps
Slick with slime and other things
A fire blazes with cauldrons bubbling
A feted smell of nightmare rings

From the depths of the blackest pot
A face of horror lingers
A toothy maw spread wide to see
And bone crushing fingers

It is the gate through which
It's grotesk visage enters
Called forth by witches dark of soul
The coven mistress, center

Now watch as they chant their spells
Voices rise in deep lament
And the evil spawn will rise again
A vision made, hell sent
