Halloween Poem: Scary Day with the Babysitter

JoAnn Selke
It was a dark and dreary day,
So we could not go outside and play.
She told us the story of the man in the cellar
And we all shuddered to think of a child killer.

He was chained in the cellar, she said
By the parents of the children now dead.
She told us he comes out only when it rains
And if we are quiet we can hear the chains.

We were scared, yet unaware
And she didn't seem to care
The door was coming ajar
And the phone was way too far.

We opened our mouths to scream
But there was no sound it seemed
We held our breath and closed our eyes
Then all of a sudden.....there were clear skies.

We looked around and all seemed fine
So we ran out of the room in a line
Perhaps it was just our imagination
But we never forgot the occasion.
