My poetic contribution to Halloween
Celebrating Halloween
Lit pumpkins in the windows
ghosts hovering in the trees
children dressed up in costumes
yes, once again, it's halloween
They come knocking at your door
hollering 'trick or treat'
sacks held open for some candy
walking up and down the street
There's a lot of preparation
just for one ghoulish night
as parents carve the jack-o-lanterns
children dress up in delight
There are tombstones on the lawns
scary hands reaching through
pictures on the front porch of
witches flying past the moon
With sounds of witches cackling
from someplace that's unknown
and black cats screeching sharply
in an ominous, frightful tone
Chains rattling from the eaves
add to the ambience
and even some would dare
to have a halloween night seance
For those who feel real brave
to venture through a haunted house
wondering if that creaking sound
was really a ghost, or just a mouse
celebrate how you will
celebrate how you might
I wish you all Happy Halloween
have a very frightful night!!!!
Little Monsters
There were a pack of little goblins
roaming down the street
yelling out in unison
It's halloween...trick or treat
Gimme lots of candy
or I'll play a trick on you
and you might not really like
what it is that I would do
Well I was running low on candy
for the night was getting late
what if they weren't satisfied
what would be my fate?
I gave each a bag of peanuts
and a chocolate bar or two
crossed my fingers for good luck
and hoped that that would do
They seemed to be quite sated
for now they're on their way
there'll be no tricks tonight
at least I hope and pray
The last little goblin
has finally made its rounds
halloween is now over
the neighborhood is safe and sound
Well at least until tomorrow
when they've eaten all their take
oh my goodness all that sugar
they're still monsters the next day!
