Halloween Pumpkins With Little to No Carving Needs

On Halloween You Don't Have to Carve Your Pumpkin

Jennifer Habersham
With Halloween right around the corner you may already be thinking about purchasing your pumpkins for carving. I myself absolutely hate carving pumpkins but I do it every year because my children enjoy it so much. But there is so much more you can do with a pumpkin than just carving out the middle, slicing a few holes for a face, and setting it on your front porch to rot or be attacked by starving squirrels looking for a good meal. Here are a few new things that you can do with your pumpkins that include little to no carving.

The Alphabet Pumpkin

If you really hate to carve than this may be a great craft project for you to do. This is also a great one for little kids but they of course need supervision so that they don't eat the glue. For supplies you will need pumpkins of any size, alphabet pasta, food coloring, and glue. First chose a saying that you would like for your pumpkin. Decide how many times you would like this phrase repeated and set aside the correct amount of pasta letters. Next dye the alphabet pasta letters with the food coloring. Let your pasta dry completely; once the pasta is dry glue the phrases onto your pumpkin. You can turn this craft into a learning experience by having your child spell out the words that they want to use on their own.

The Black Cat

With this great craft project you will need black paint, orange paint, black pipe cleaners, and two pumpkins, one large and one small to medium sized and any accessories that you may want to add. The first step is two paint both pumpkins black. Let pumpkins dry completely then paint cat 's eyes (using the orange paint) on the smaller pumpkin. Don't worry if you are not a good artist because believe me I'm not either. Next poke three holes on each side of the face and insert the pipe cleaners for whiskers.

Add whatever accessories you like, I usually tie a place a scarf on top of the large pumpkin and then place the smaller one on top. I then wrap the scarf around the pumpkin's "neck".

You can also do this same project but instead of painting you would carve the head of the pumpkin. You would carve eyes, the mouth, and the whiskers. Drop a tea light candle in the "cat's head" and set on your front porch.

Mr. Pumpkin Head

This is truly one of the easiest things that you can do to decorate your pumpkin. The supplies that you will need are pumpkins and Mr. Potato Head accessories. Just decide on a design you would like for your pumpkin and stick the appropriate Mr. Potato Head pieces into your pumpkin. You can also purchase special Mr. Potato Head pieces at Target that are designed to be use specifically on pumpkins.

Terra Cotta Pumpkin

This is another pumpkin craft that you can create with no carving and no pumpkin for that matter. The supplies that you will need are terra cotta planting pots in whatever size you prefer, and an assortment of paint colors. For the first step you want to paint your terra cotta pot black. Once the black paint has dried you want to paint a face (similar to what you might carve into a pumpkin) on the front of your terra cotta pot. If you are going to put the pot outside you may want to seal it with a spray on paint sealer (you can find the sealer at any hobby store).

Pin and Sequins Pumpkin

This is another great pumpkin craft that you can create without any carving. The supplies you need are pumpkins, pins with round tops or embellished tops and sequins. Thread your pin through a sequin and then stick into pumpkin. Repeat as many times as desired.
