Halloween Safety Tips to Keep the Holiday Safe

Tammy S
Last year, you learned the various Trick-or-Treating safety tips for taking your child out on Halloween. Those safety tips have not changed and apply yearly. However, with there being other Halloween events and attractions going on through-out the Halloween season, you want to be sure the safety tips do not just stop at Trick-or-Treating. Here are various other Halloween safety tips you should follow. You want to be sure that not only your children, family, and peers follow these rules, but that you follow them as well.

Haunted Attractions Halloween Safety Tips.

1. ALWAYS follow the rules set by the location of the haunted attraction. The rules are set for a reason and not following them could get you hurt, in trouble, or worse.

2. Most, if not all, haunted attractions have tour guides. Stay with them. Listen to them. They know what they are doing and where they are going.

3. Do not climb on or mess with any of the props in a haunted attractions. Depending on the prop, you could end up knocking a prop on yourself, tripping, electrocuting yourself, and so on. The props are there as decorations, and nothing more. You may find a situation where you are allowed to touch a prop, but a tour guide will usually let you know.

4. Stay with the group during the walk-through attractions, especially on haunted trails through the dark woods. In addition to running the risk of getting hurt or in trouble, it can also be scary to be lost in a haunted attraction alone.

5. When riding on a haunted hayride or any kind of ride, DO NOT STAND UP. Think of it as a regular amusement park or carnival ride. Would you stand up in those? Doing so could cause you to fall down, or worse, fall out or off of the ride altogether.

6. You will be told in advance that the characters may touch you. This means they may get close to you or accidentally brush into you. If this happens, do not attack them. This can lead to a fight and even legal issues.

Halloween Parties.

If you are throwing a Halloween party, then it may be best to let everyone know of the safety tips and rules in advance.

1. Be sure you know and trust someone before going to a Halloween party. If you are going with a friend and still do not know the host, then be sure to stick with your friend or group at the party.

2. Never accept a drink from someone you do not know (especially if this party is at a bar or club). The person may indeed be harmless, but you cannot ignore the news stories of those who become hurt, sick, or worse from something in their drink.

3. Limit the use of alcohol and do not allow any drugs onto your property. This will not only prevent any injuries or illnesses, but it will also prevent you from getting into any kind of party.

3. If you are throwing a Halloween party, then be sure to set a limit on who can come and who they can bring in advance. You do not want a small gathering of twenty to turn into a blow out of sixty.

4. Be sure to use the regular safety tips if you are throwing the party at home, including safety tips for fires, children, first aid, etc.

5. Since there will be a crowd of people at your house, keep the first aid kit and telephone where you can easily access them if needed.

6. If there will be children at the party, then let the adults know in advance. Keep the party age appropriate and family-friendly.

Trick-or-Treating Events.

1. When Trick-or-Treating at an event, be sure to keep your children close to you at all times. It can get very crowded.

2. It may help to look up a map or directory of the mall in advance, so that you know where each store is and where you want to begin.

3. Do not run on any staircases or escalators. The event usually lasts for a few hours, so there is no need to rush for the candy.

4. If the event is outside, then be sure to keep the children close to you and cross any streets carefully.

Handing Out Candy.

1. Try to purchase candy that is suitable for all children, including toddlers. They may not all be your children, but it is always a good idea to keep their safety in mind if you are going hand out candy.

2. Do not let any strangers into your house to get the candy. Sit outside on the porch or steps, or stand in the doorway to hand out the candy.

3. Never let your children sit outside alone to hand out the candy, as you never know who will be walking by.

Decorating.

1. Keep the various fire safety tips in mind when plugging in and using Halloween decorations.

2. Just like the props in a haunted house, do not climb on or mess with the props and decorations you are using in your own home.

3. Do not buy or use anything that can be a serious hazard to you or your household. Do not place it outside if it could be hazardous to the neighborhood.

These may be a lot of Halloween safety tips to follow, but you never know what can happen. It is always good to be prepared in advance so that the holiday season can go by safely.

You may or may not always agree with the Halloween safety tips, but you should still keep them in mind. Even when having fun on Halloween, it is always better to be safe than sorry. If everyone is healthy and well, then Halloween will be a lot of fun to celebrate!
