Halloween TV Movie Marathons- Top 5 Places to Watch for 2009

Halloween is the best time of the year to sit and enjoy monster movie marathons on various networks on TV. I remember as a kid, all the local channels advertising for their monster movie marathons, and it was better than all the others. I loved it. My Dad got me into the classics, like The Creature from the Black Lagoon, or any Bela Lugosi or Boris Karloff movie. My Dad does the best Bela Lugosi Dracula impression. Anyway, this year, while I am out trick or treating with the kids, these are the monster movie marathons I found for Halloween night. Many stations are doing what they call The 13 Days of Halloween. My marathon list is for October 30th and spooky Halloween night!

One of my favorite channels is Sy Fy, formerly known as SciFi Channel. (Yes, they changed the name, and that is a whole other issue for me...) Their marathon for Friday the 30th starts at 8 am with Night of the Comet, then about every two hours has the movies House of the Dead, House of the Dead 2, Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis, Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Grave, Route 666, Resident Evil, Legion of the Dead, The Fear: Halloween Night and The Unborn.

On Halloween night, Sy Fy is not running movies, but instead a marathon of "Ghost Hunters", including a live event that they do every year. A dear friend of mine, Carol Brown, will be ecstatic! You can click here for the link to the show times.

TCM, or Turner Classic Movies, is also having a Monster Movie Marathon. They are having movies on both the 30th and the 31st. (Click on the date to go to the site for the full breakdowns of the movies.) Starting at 3 am on October 30th, they are running a Boris Karloff marathon with Behind the Mask, The Mask of Fu Manchu, The Ghoul, The Black Room, The Walking Dead, The Man They Could Not Hang, The Man With Nine Lives, Before I Hang, The Ape, The Devil Commands, and Isle of the Dead. Then at 5pm they are having a marathon of psychological thrillers to get your blood pumping, with Gaslight, Night Must Fall, Psycho, and closing the evening at 11 pm with Zaat. The next movie begins the marathon for Halloween with Swamp Thing at 12:45 am. Then the Monster & Thriller Movie Marathon continues with The Woman in White, Dead of Night, The Haunting, The Abominable Dr. Phibes, Diary of a Madman, Martin Scorsese Presents, Val Lewton: The Man in the Shadows, Cat People, and The Curse of the Cat People. 5 pm starts the Mad Scientists segment with the classic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941), Murders in the Zoo, The Body Snatchers, Circus of Horrors, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde(1932), and at 12:45 am, The Son of Dr. Jekyll. These are all great movies, and I would love to see them all!

.

Showtime has a few scary movies playing on Halloween. To see the full list and their times, click here. Some of the movies are Beowolf, Skinwalkers, 1408 (adapted from a Stephen King short story), Midnight Movie and Halloween (2007).

ABC Family is having a 13 Nights of Halloween, but will not release the information yet. I have included the website, so after this is published, the information might be released.(As with many, many other stations I researched.)

For our last listing, let's look at the little ones that scare easily. Let's look at Playhouse Disney and see what kind of Halloween marathons they have. Click here for the full listing of times and shows for Playhouse Disney. Instead of running the marathons on the weekend of Halloween, they are doing it a week early, starting on October 25th and ending on October 26th. It will start at 5 am Central time with Halloween themed episodes of "The Doodlebops" and carry through the morning with shows like "The Wiggles", "My Friends Tigger and Pooh", "Little Einstiens", "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" and "Happy Monster Band". These are all great shows for your toddlers and parents, too. My eight year old loves to sit and explain the shows to his baby sister. Anyway, it is wholesome Halloween fun that won't leave your little ones crying all night long because of blood and gore.

Happy Halloween!

If you don't want the kids to see so many slash them up movies I would recommend the classic black and white Haunting of Hill House as a must see halloween movie. Very scary! Great article for my favorite holiday
