Fanboys will scream that Halo was original in that it had vehicles when in fact Unreal Tournament was the first game with vehicle created by user modifications back in 1999. The only reason Halo received such fanfare was because unlike PCs which have a small user base and minimal advertisements, Halo was a console game backed by the biggest software company in the U.S., Microsoft. They had more than enough marketing dollars to hype the game up to consumers and pay off reviewers. I have played the other two Halo iterations and although fun online, after a few levels in the single player, I was bored of the tedium of levels that looked too similar and the boring storyline. The graphics in the beta weren't great, but Bungie claims they will be better in the final version.
From what I have seen in the beta and screenshots, the game does not have stunning visuals like Gears of War, Assassin's Creed, or Bioshock. Personally, I don't expect Bioshock graphics just because the amount of enemies in Halo 3 will degrade performance tremendously for those kind of graphics, but I do expect at least Gears of War graphics. Now for the final conclusion, they are marketing specially painted XBOX 360 systems, which are basically a glorified Premium Console, which doesn't even include the game, and a Legendary Edition game package that includes a ridiculous helmet replica and some behind the scenes DVD. It looks like now game studios are trying to make up for mediocre games by offering bonus content for a higher price. We shall see in a few weeks if Halo 3 lives up to the hype or remains as another mediocre game for a studio known for cranking out crap similar to movie studios creating movie tie-in games that are well known for being garbage.
High sales of crappy games do not equal success; it equals great marketing for crap and a lot of suckers. Luckily, I pre-ordered enough copies to sell on EBay to pay for this game and many others, so that I don't feel guilty later for buying possible crap. I will post a full review when I get it in my hands the same day as most who pre-ordered. Hopefully, some studio out there will create a multiplayer game that will innovate and cause the FPS to change again, because it has been almost 10 years since the last real innovation (Unreal Tournament 1999), and too much mediocrity at premium prices exist.

Post a CommentHalo 3 is pathetic in comparison with most PC shooters. Run and gun. Run and gun. Rinse and repeat. Shoot, shoot, run. Where are the engaging tactics that make this the best game ever? There aren't any. Even multiplayer shows that it doesn't matter how skillled you are at it: I randomly came first, middle, or last on a server, as did almost everyone else.
Halo's multiplayer has always been the best thing about the game. I don't know how many hundreds of hours I have spent playing H1 and H2 multiplayer with my friends. I do agree that Halo 3 is probably the most over-hyped game to date. let me just say that a game doesn't nesessarily have to be innovative to be good. Every game that comes out can't be completely different... that's impossible. But you are right... being that this is the third installment of the series, it is just more of the same. The story isn't the worst I've ever seen, but it could be better. Bungie has recently split from Microsoft, so hopefully they'll do something really different with thier next title.
All I have to say is: "If you want innovation and a complelling storyline, then you want BIOSHOCK!!!! I'll be reviewing it soon.
I agree, very overhyped.
Yeah dude I love Halo 3..its the first Halo game I've ever bought and I'm in agreement - I've never understood the hype surrounding this game either. I mean sure it's fun but it does seem to get boring after a bit of playing online...even when your dominating the other team.
It seems we have very similar idea's. You should check out my first article(only one published at the moment). It talks about why I find Halo 3 to be overhyped.
But ya, it's definitely overhyped. Probably the most the world has ever seen.
Anyway, as my closing statement on this page, i'd like to say i agree with some things you've said. But please, i understand you don't like the game; but there are no bad games, liking them or not is an opinion and a personal taste. Calling people who support a game "fanboys", is getting rather old and distasteful on the internet, i'm quite sick of it. If you don't like the game, fine. And if you want to tell people why you don't LIKE the game, fine. But don't tell people it's a bad game, and don't insult those who support the game. With that said, Take care elias and anyone else who reads these boards. Adios.
Do you realize how much more Halo 3 is going have in it, that wasn't in the beta? It's like seeing half a picture...you don't know what the other half even is, so don't write about it.
i luove video games too. thats why i pa the online game runescape. but personally i dont like any of the halo games because it gets boring all day shooting ur friends like about a 1000 times. lol but it is cool that u can do multiplayer
Halo 3 will change your opinion.
I prefer online games myself. I play a lot of Zuma and Luxor Amun Rising. My kids and I liked Disney's Toontown Online so much I subscribed. These shoot-em-up games are just no fun. I don't even look at them.
