Ham Recipes Make Any Dinner a Holiday: Baked or in a Crock Pot

Two Great Ways to Make a Special Dinner

Robin Vinci
Here are recipes for two great ham recipes. Whether it is Christmas, New Years, Easter or any occasion, these are recipes that everyone will thank you for making.

Maple Baked Ham

8-10 lbs shank ham

10-14 cloves

1 tablespoon coriander seeds

12 tablespoon peppercorns

1 tablespoon flour

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove fat from ham. Grind cloves, seeds and peppercorn. Stir in butter and make into a paste. Put ham in pan and spread mixture over ham. Bake 1 ½ hours until a light crust forms on ham.

You can serve it with a sauce of ½ cup Dijon mustard and ½ cup maple syrup.

Crock Pot Cider Glazed Ham

4-5 lbs ham, soaked overnight to remove excess salt

2 onions

12-15 cloves

3 bay leaves

12 black peppercorns

1 cup cider

3 tablespoons light brown sugar

Put ham in crock pot and pour almost enough water to cover it. Stud onions with 6 peppercorns and put in crock pot. Cook 4-5 hours. Make the glaze pouring cider in a pan and stirring in brown sugar until dissolved. Simmer for 5 minutes. Remove the ham and score it. Put 12-15 cloves into the scored sections. Spoon some of the glaze over the ham and put back in crock pot. Cook another 3 hours. Remove ham and glaze again. Let cool and serve.

I serve these with scalloped potatoes, cranberries, carrots, apple sauce and dinner rolls.
