Hamburger Mary's Bar and Grille is a relative newcomer to the Denver area. However, Hamburger Mary's was established in 1972 in San Francisco and has since become a franchise across the United States; including cities like Honolulu, Long Beach, West Hollywood, San Diego, Phoenix, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, D.C., Seattle, Ft. Lauderdale, Cincinnati, Minneapolis, Vancouver, and Chicago.
Hamburger Mary's is located at 700 East 17th Avenue in the heart of Denver. They can also be reached by phone at (303) 832-1333. They are open, Monday through Saturday, 11:00am to 2:00am and Sunday, 11:00am to 2:00am. Aside from the restaurant, they also have a full service bar. Also coming this fall "The Queen Mary" Room, an elegant private banquet room and martini lounge. Contact them now to reserve this comfortable space for your holiday party or other celebration for up to 50 people.
The food is delectable. The average price of a meal is $10-$15 per person, without drinks. The menu is so plentiful it is hard to choose what to try, and before you leave you are already trying to decide what to have on your next visit. Hamburger Mary's has a huge selection of appetizers, salads, wraps, and sandwiches, and main entrees. There is a limited kids menu; however, the adults will have plenty to share. I tried the Desperate Housewives Burger (Mary uses only Certified Angus Beef), and I have to state for the record that it actually danced across my taste buds. Half-pound charbroiled Mary burger, with fresh minced garlic, Swiss cheese and Caesar dressing for $9.95. I wouldn't really recommend Hamburger Mary's for your vegetarian friends if you are going there for the food, although you can substitute any burger for a veggie patty. There is one other item I noticed on the menu for vegetarians; a pizza called the Margherita, with Roma tomatoes, fresh basil, provolone, mozzarella and asiago cheeses for $8.95. They also have the typical appetizers like Onion Rings, Fries, and other veggies that would appeal to vegetarians. Hamburger Mary's also has a relaxing brunch on Sunday from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
The real draw to Hamburger Mary's Bar and Grille is the Bar. Happy Hour is every day of the week from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, and offers $3.00 calls, $2.00 wells & domestic bottles, and $1.00 Bud Light & Michelob Ultra Draughts. There are drink specials every night of the week and activities such as "Dream Girls", "Mary Oke", "TGIF Parties", and "Slut Bingo". You can get a full schedule of events for the month on the website at: http://hamburgermarysdenver.com/calendar.htm .
The drink selection is not listed on the website yet, but I can assure you that if you want a particular drink, it is highly likely the excellent bar staff will be able to create the concoction of your dreams. My favorite was the Mimosas.
Some critics have touted Hamburger Mary's as a "mix of gay-friendly attitude and blue-collar atmosphere, because of Mary, the "voluptuous blonde mascot of the restaurant. That's what sets it apart from your regular bar and grille. It's everyone getting along and just having a grand ol' time. I think that the mixture is what creates such a unique atmosphere. The ambiance is outstanding.
