Hamlet's Procrastination

Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind?

David A. Reinstein, LCSW

Had Hamlet ever listened to
The Lovin' Spoonful,
He might have given more
Thought to having to
Make up his mind.
Wracked by
Nightmarish uncertainty
And immobilizing ambivalence,
Hamlet just couldn't decide
Whether or not to be.
That was the question.

Unfortunately,
John Sebastian
Would not come along
For quite some time
And Hamlet's moment
Was his own.
He chose
And chose poorly
According to the script writ
For him
By a slightly bearded
Play crafter for hire
Bard on Avon.

There is some Hamlet in us all
As we struggle to be sure
When certainty remains
Maddeningly elusive
And the clear line of
Demarcation
Between right and wrong
Remains chronically
And forever humanly
Inconclusive.

You took the "ham" out of Hamlet and put the classic back into it. The veritable fence sitter. PS, please take me with you to Maui....PLEASE. Its been 100-118 for 26 straight days here in Southern Kansas.

This a good interpretation of Hamlet. I think Shakespeare hit the nail right on the head about human behavior... there is a little Hamlet in all of us.
