Hampton Roads, Virginia, is known for being one of the biggest military areas in the country, culture and entertainment. Hampton Roads consists of Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, Yorktown, Newport News and Williamsburg. One of the newest things to hit the scene lately has been wine bars. They have been around for a while they are just now becoming more and more popular. Hampton Roads has no shortage of great wine bars. Here are the top 5.

The Winehouse Bar and Bistro, located at 1517 Colley Ave, Norfolk, VA 23517, is Norfolk's top wine bar. They serve Lunch and Dinner and Sunday Brunch. Their menu includes soups and salads, also appetizers and small plate entrees if you wish to eat light. Their newest wine Red4 is a must try if you stop by. Also the Vina Robles Red 2007 has received excellent reviews and I recommend it too! They do ask for reservations on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and if you have parties of 8 or more.

Press 626 Cafe & Wine Bar located at 626 West Olney Road Norfolk, VA 23507 is another of Norfolk's great wine bars. With its exposed brick walls and dim lighting Press 626 is great to come and relax and enjoy the wine. A few of the recommended wines to try are Gloria Ferrer Etesian Pinot Noir from Sonoma for a red wine. If you prefer a white wine I suggest Bougrier Rose d'Anjou from France. Their menu includes sandwiches such as the El Cubano, A create your own salad option, their main menu and choices of desserts. They also have a Sunday brunch menu. They offer 3 specials threw out the week, Monday Night is Ladies night where ladies can receive 50% their Entrees, Tuesday and Wednesday is Scrubs Night, where anybody attending dinner in their scrubs receives 15% of their entire check, and all weekday from 3:30pm till 6:30pm all their small plates on the menu are buy one get one half off!

Next the Sonoma WineBar & Bistro located at 189 Central Park Avenue Virginia Beach, VA 23462 is a great place in Virginia Beach to check out. Wine here is purchased by the bottle not by the glass. One of the top choices for a white wine is Celine & Laurent Tripoz 2006 or if you prefer a red wines the Duckhorn Merlot 2006. Their menu carries everything from Jumbo Gulf Shrimp and Sea Scallops to Cast Iron Seared 12 oz. Hereford New York Strip. The lively atmosphere and rounded bar allow for easy conversation! They do ask you make reservations; you can do so online or by calling them at 757-490-9463.

The Vintage Tavern located at 1900 Governors Pointe Dr Suffolk, VA 23436is worth the slight drive from the hustle and bustle of Hampton Roads. This wine bar has a real rustic feel with the stone walls, exposed wood beams, and woods feel around it. One of their recommended white wines is Tohu 2006 from New Zealand and a recommended red wine is Bodegas Vinedos Alion 2002 from Spain. Their menu features some of the chef's southern flair! From the Creamy Sweet Onion Soup to the Route 17 Roasted Pig Plate the southern flairs are all threw out the menu!

The Eurasia Cafe & Wine Bar located at 960 Laskin Rd Virginia Beach, VA 23451 is another great wine bar in the center of all the action in Virginia Beach. This place takes on a more modern feel with its clean cut lines. One of their recommended white wines is the 2006 Ferrari Carano Chardonnay and for red the 2007 Leese Fitch Cabernet. Their menu includes fresh and season items along with their all year around Asian inspired items such as the Summer Blues salad and Roast Leg of Lamb.
