The Transition

My apologies for not providing a seamless transition from end of "The Sprint to 2010" Series of page view races to "Rush to The April of 2010 Page View Pot of Gold". I had a last minute trip to take so my time was short and my internet connection was slow. I was able to gather all the page views of all participants for December 31, 2009. Therefore all ending page views for "The Sprint" and all the starting page views for "The Rush" should be accurate.

Here are the links to the end of The Sprint to 2010. Please visit each of the articles, show your support to the individuals and teams that participated and leave a comment for each of them if you would be so kind. Collectively, the participants of "The Sprint to 2010" reeled in 1,591,010 page views. Yes all our efforts were individual, but we can all be proud of our own personal contribution to the collective cause.

The Sprint to 2010 has been updated with the final page views through December 31, 2009. The update is here:

Sprint to 2010 MVP Awards

Please send me a ballot numbered 1-5 with one being the highest rank for your MVP nominations. Take into account how the individual performed as an individual and as a member of a team. Again this is all in good fun and show support for each other, recognize those that performed exceedingly well and to give us even more incentive to improve. Thank you for your participation.

Page View Communication

Thank you to all of you that send me your total page views. It really makes a big difference and I appreciate it.

Page View Harvester

In order to conduct these races the page views of all participants need to be gathered on a regular basis. I am just curious as to whether anyone is interested in helping me harvest the page views for the races. Obviously this is not mandatory. However, if you are willing and able please get in touch with me. Trust me every bit of help will make a difference and will be appreciated.

New Format

As indicated in a previous newsletter, communicating updates to the page view race statistics and commentary has always been a challenge. Most recently, I have published these newsletters and included links to the updated statistics and commentary articles.. For this series of races, I am going to try and write the commentary in the space provided in a slide show image. That way I can publish each update separately. I would have preferred keeping the commentary all together, but I believe this is a more functional format. As we move forward, please let me know what you think of this format. As always if you have any recommendations I am all ears.

Individual Races

I designed eleven individual races that were based on the page views as of December 12/31/2009. "Rush to the April of 2010 Page View Pot of Gold" will tabulate individual page views that are earned from 1/1/2010-3/31/2010. I tried hard to find dividing points that created races that grouped Contributors together that were as similar as possible. For the initial update you can see the total number of page views that each team has obtained through 12/31/2009.

Team Changes

This how I see these races unfolding in the days to come: I expect to run quarterly races as well as some special contests along the way. The Sprint to the End of the Year will hopefully be an annual race, because I think it is neat to try our best down the stretch of each year.

Prior to the start of reach race (not including any special contests), I hope we can reach out and invite other Contributors to join our page view races.

At the end of each race, Contributors will have the opportunity to graduate to another league should they pass certain page view thresholds. As new Contributors participate we will need to expand. Initially, I think it is best to have more teams with fewer Contributors per team rather than to have extremely large teams.

For this round of graduation and expansion, I took responsibility to assign the graduates to new teams and to create the expansion teams. I did this in the most equitable manner possible. As a group we can determine how to handle expansion and graduation in the future. I am an easy going guy and can easily go with the flow. Remember, while it is nice to win, we want to emphasize the community and interactive spirit.

Now that we have a basic structure in place, Contributors will be able to change leagues as their page views progress. That way the level of competition should remain consistent.

The teams will remain intact unless a Contributor graduates to the next level or if they indicate at the end of the race that they are retiring.

Currently, I have setup three leagues. For the initial update you can see the total number of page views that each team has obtained through 12/31/2009. Hopefully, the number of teams will increase with the passage of time.

"Rush to The April of 2010 Page View Pot of Gold" will tabulate team page views from 1/1/2010-3/31/2010.

League #1:

League #1 will consist of Contributors that have at least 1 million page views. Linda Ann Nickerson worked hard to assemble a team. They already have a named picked out. They want to be known as INKING IT OVER. I needed to scramble and assemble a team that could compete with her team. I believe I that I have succeeded. Time will tell us if I was correct.

League #2

League #2 will consist of Contributors that have between 200,000-999,999 page views.

Congratulations to Tamara McRill and Joshua Huffman. Both of these fine Contributors exceeded 200,000 page views and it became necessary to move them up into this level of competition. I am sure both of their former teams will miss their page view contributions.

League #3

League #3 will consist of Contributors that have between 0-199,999 page views. For this round I needed to create two expansion teams as well try and fill the shoes of Tamara McRill and Joshua Huffman. As stated previously, I tried my best to make the playing field as equal as possible. If you look at things now, Turn the Page seems to look like the team to beat, but who knows if somewhere a Contributor will step up to the page view plate and hit a home run. However, it is likely that Turn the Page will be hit hard by graduation after this race runs its course.

Team Names and League Names

Please communicate with your team members and give your team a name. Also, please send me any of your ideas for the names of the leagues.

With all that being said, I am anxious to get to work to bring you the first official update for first ever "Rush to the April Page View Pot of Gold" series of page view races.

Thanks for all your work, Han. I had such major computer problems at the end of the year that I had to reload Windows and start all over again, but hopefully things should go better in 2010.
