Hand Care

After a long day in the salon or on the stages here in Hollywood, no one knows hand care better than I. From chemical processes to hot tools, running water all day long and being out in the elements, my hands often ache from dryness and chemical burns. While it would be nice to throw on a pair of gloves or hand protectors every time I turn around, often times, there simply isn't time. Between running from location to location, or applying color and styling hair all day long, it's a "get-the-job-done" kinda day. But what is a person to do to take care of her (or his) hands to prevent dryness, cracking or discomfort? Hopefully these beauty tips will help, as they come right from the red carpet.

1. I believe it's important to exfoliate our hands just as we do our face or other parts of the body. The skin on our hands can harden, crack, and become most uncomfortable from dryness and irritation. By exfoliating, we help speed up cellular turnover bringing that bright supple skin to the surface. Additionally, moisture can't penetrate through hardened skin so exfoliation (gently please) is very important.
2. Moisturize daily! The skin has a perfect balance of oil and water and daily moisture to the hands is very important.
3. Be careful of weather and elements. Always keep a sample sized moisture treatment with you to help protect and sooth the hands.
4. Avoid heat packs on the hands if you are having hand treatments. These often become too hot and can burn the skin.
5. Be sure you have professional hand and nail treatments as frequently as recommended by your beauty professional to keep hands looking and feeling their best.
