John Reames suffered from spina bifida and walked with two canes. According to police reports, Reames was struck by a van driven by another local man, David Biggs.
Biggs, 55, was westbound on Mill Street near the intersection with South Forest Street when he struck Reames. Reames was walking near the intersection when he was struck and was transported to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale with head injuries.
Reames died later at the hospital.
Carbondale Police and the Jackson Country Sheriff's Department are investigating the incident, but there have currently been no charges filed in the accident.
Reames' family lives near Tamaroa and has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Spina Bifida Association. His death marks the second time in six months that a handicapped resident of Carbondale has been killed in a collision with a vehicle.
Another resident was killed in the fall of 2006 when he rode his bicycle into traffic.

Post a CommentYou are correct...I should have caught that. Collided implies both were moving, although I think John may have been walking, struck is more appropriate.
"Struck" and "collisded" mean two different things. I saw that you used them both here to describe the same incident, and that was the only thing detracting from your story.
