Handle Fire Related Hazard with Fire Suppression System

Having a kitchen equipped with hi-tech modern appliances is the dream of every housewife. However, it is important to remember that these advanced appliances often come with fire related hazards too, if not maintained properly.

A safe kitchen can ensure security for the entire residence since this is the place which is exposed to maximum risks related to fire. Thus apart from buying kitchen appliances you need to install a fire suppression system as well.

Mostly fire suppression models are based on four different types of fire reduction agents, i.e. Dry Chemical, Wet Chemical, Carbon-dioxide and Halon. Depending on gravity of the situation, different agents can be applied. For kitchen set up, the hood system works effectively which can be installed over the fryer or grills. The fire suppression nozzle can discharge either wet or dry fire suppression chemical. Usually the area just above the hood accumulates lots of grease. Hence the nozzle fitted right above can protect the entire space too. These techniques work well for local applications where the suppression agent chemically reacts to douse the fire.

Carbon-dioxide system works properly in a closed space may be a storage area. Since the method involves total flooding of the affected region, it is very important that the space is totally shut during this system activation. However, the method may prove to be highly risky if a person is trapped inside the room. The CO2 discharge system displaces oxygen from the space thus resulting in life threatening risks for any person. However, most of these systems have pre-discharge alarms to warn anyone working inside to get out in time. Though considered highly effective as a fire suppression system, this application has few disadvantages. Spraying the entire area proves to be messy and needs lots of cleaning. Further, it becomes difficult to retrieve important documents from the place.

Halon is one agent which is clean and can be used for hi-tech areas like Computer rooms. This system is highly beneficial for fire fighting purposes in rooms or areas containing important documents. Application of Halon ensures minimum collateral damage. Another distinguished feature is that the concentration used to suppress fire can support life too. Thus a person can stay inside the room during Halon discharge.

You can select any of these techniques as fire fighting measures but just ensure proper maintenance of the system.
