Handmade Christmas Gifts for a Baby

Handmade gifts for a baby are just as often for the parents as they are for the child. Make them something both parents and children will appreciate for years to come.

Nursery wall art

Most nurseries or baby showers have a theme in place well before the baby shower takes place. Hopefully the gender of the baby is known. If this is the case, you can make really cool wall art for a nursery with several different colors of adhesive backed vinyl, contact paper, and a die-cut machine like the Cricut of Silhouette. You can cut out several shapes, words, and more that fit that cute baby's nursery theme or color scheme with just a few pushes of a button. Add the baby's name, and you have some cute wall art that will last until the parents need to remove it, or want to change themes. When you are finished cutting out your design, place it front down onto the contact paper, remove all of the extra vinyl from the design, and put the backing of the contact paper back on. This will let the family you make it for attach it wherever they want in the nursery. It also makes it much more convenient as a gift.

A crochet/knitted blanket/clothing

Can you crochet or knit? Well, one thing that my wife and I discovered with Gabriel was the need for several soft blankets. And though a crochet or knit blanket is typically not the best choice for a receiving blanket, it is a great choice for a hand made, comfortable, and very soft blanket for putting the baby to sleep, for wrapping around their car seat, for nap times, and more. If you are talented enough to follow a pattern, add some the baby's name to the middle of the blanket for added personalization. Try to use a very soft, all natural material such as wool yarn, and you will be sure to have made the baby a favorite blanket.

Nursery or crib furninshings

Can you sew? Well, every nursery needs curtains. Can you sew a fitted sheet? Extra crib sets are an inexpensive way to make a mother or father deliriously happy. Baby will go through many sheets, sometimes multiples in one night, and having a spare, especially one lovingly hand made by family or a friend is a huge help, and saves the new parents from having to buy an extra crib set.
