Handmade New Year's Greeting Cards

Tracy DeLuca
Many people are choosing to send New Year's cards to their friends and relatives now. Here are two different quick and easy cards to make. You can make these in any size you choose and can use different colors of card stock to make a variety of cards. These are simple designs and can easily be made in bulk. These would also be fairly easy for a child to help you make.

Fireworks New Year's Card

Craft Materials Needed:

Computer and printer

Paper, plain white

scissors

glue stick

colored markers or pens

Type up a short holiday saying like "Happy New Year's from" or "Happy 2009 from" and a list of all your family members. Use a medium sized font and make sure it is readable. I would suggest something like Comic Sans in 16 point.

Print out the sayings and cut them out neatly. You just need rectangles around them. Glue the sayings onto a piece of plain white paper in a starburst/ fireworks shape. Have the image photocopied onto card stock at your local copy shop. Choose a bright color card stock.

Fold each piece of card stock in half (use a scoring tool to help crease the paper if necessary). Handwrite your New Year's wishes on the inside of the card using colored markers or pens, sign it and send to your loved ones! Envelopes in the correct sizes can be purchased at craft stores or stationery stores.

2009 Greeting Card

Craft Materials Needed:

Card stock in different, bright colors

Large number stencils

Glue

glitter or confetti

Using the stencils, trace and cut out large numbers from the card stock. Use a different color for each number. You will need one 2, two 0s and one 9. Choose one color of card stock for your card base and cut to the size you wish. I suggest 8 inches by 6 inches. When the card is folded it will be 4 inches by 6 inches. Score the card stock and fold it. Glue the numbers to the front of the card in a staggered pattern. Glue glitter or confetti around the numbers and let it dry. Write your greeting on the inside and sign. Envelopes in the correct sizes can be purchased at craft stores or stationery stores.
