A headset has been a very useful device for many activities where the user communicates by voice. Earlier models were rather cumbersome and quite heavy. There was an ear one piece and a separate microphone. The sound quality was not very good.
The major advantage of a headset is that it frees the user's hands. This permits the user to carry-out other duties, like looking up some information for the caller, checking caller details on a database, writing down some detail on the conversation or moving other controls as in gaming.
The headsets are now being used widely by individuals communicating over cell phones when on foot or in vehicles; communicating with each other over the internet in chartrooms or VOIP; as necessary accessories for the receptionist; a critical tool for the call centre personnel; DJ's at a nightspots and various other applications.
As technology made further advances, the ear piece became two. One could now ensure more focused attention as both ears were used together. With the one ear piece, there was a lot of interference from noise in the environment. An additional benefit of better sound quality came with the development of stereophonic sound production, providing the headset user with an immediate and very satisfying sound reproduction experience.
Additional advances saw the merging of the ear-piece(s) and the microphone. Several models were made, some with one or two speakers depending on the application.
For noisy environments or where the user could focus only on the task at hand, two ear-pieces are standard. This ensures that the user of the headset has minimal distractions from the environment and maximum benefit from the sounds coming out of the ear pieces.
There are now several models of headset in use for both the home and the office. There are several models with one or two earpieces presented in various configurations. Some of these are essential an ear price with a microphone attached, with the earpiece predominating the apparatus. Other models have a microphone, a single earpiece and a head attachment.
There are now also Bluetooth headsets which are used mainly with cellular phones.
One of the most functional of these headsets is the behind the head with microphone set which is much in demand.
It supports a superior stereophonic head ear assemble, that has included padding for comfort and external noise interference. The microphones used are also of very high-quality and offer noise reduction functionality.
