If you're lucky enough to receive a non-defective product, it certainly works as advertised. It very convenient for those who can't get to lamps, whether it's because of mobility or placement of the lamp. It has also been useful for use with a Christmas tree or playhouse or other electronics. The possibilities of this device really are limitless.
3 On Your Side did a feature on this product, and Bart Treece was thrilled with the results. Just as advertised, there were no wires and instillation was simple. The product functioned properly at distances of 15 feet, 50 feet and 60 feet. As a final test, Bart Treese attempted to use the product from his vehicle outside a closed garage door-and it worked!
The product is reasonably priced at $15. There are similar products on the market that cost $80 and upwards, but these offer additional features such as self-powering units, as opposed to the batteries the Handy Switch requires. The low prices makes this product ideal for those would most benefit from it: elderly who may be on a fixed income and for children, who may have a tendency to break such devices.
If you are unlucky enough to receive a defective product, it might be worth you time to just write off this $15 product. Other reviews have indicated the company is very difficult to reach. If contacting them by email, several rounds of emails are needed to get anywhere. If contacting them by telephone (assuming you happen across the correct 800-number), there are often long wait times and disconnected calls. When you finally are able to get through to someone, the return policy is very restrictive-be sure to hang onto all of your packaging just in case.
Another prevalent problem with this product is durability. The unit frequently stops working-oftentimes after just a few uses.
In conclusion, this $15 device can solve your problems of being unable to access the switch to turn on or off a plug-in lamp. It also has an endless array of other practical purposes. For the low cost, it is certainly worth a shot. Just keep in mind that you may come up short and be faced with the decision to battle to return the device, or just write it off as a lesson learned.

Post a CommentI have been married for a year and half and have a 14 yr old from a previous marriage. My bedroom is set so far back in the house that I cannot hear him getting ready for school, nor can I see light under the door, so every morning, I am up at 6am just to be sure he is up. 95% of the time, he is. I purchased this product and set a very very small lamp on my dresser and attached the switch outside my bedroom door, now, he just flips it on, I know he is up and I can stay in bed. Hallelujiah! This had been an issue my husband and I fought about daily because when I would get up, it would wake him up and he could not understand my need to check on him. Thanks for this...it gives me security in knowing my son will not miss the bus while allowing my huband to get the sleep he needs. THANKS
