Hanukkah Crafts for Kids: How to Make a Paper Dreidel

Bill Smith
As Hanukkah is approaching, you might be trying to think of some crafts that your child can do. Making a paper dreidel is a simple and easy craft that will take your child a small amount of time and not cost you a lot of money. If you want to make a paper dreidel, then you need some simple materials that can be found at your local religious store or department store for about $10.

If you want your child to make a paper dreidel you are going to need some string, scissors, and glue. You first need to download and print the template for the paper dreidel. Once you have printed the template, you need to cut out the shapes by following the solid lines. If your child wants to, you can let them color the letters and background in great Hanukkah colors, then fold the paper on the dotted lines. You should take your glue and glue to the specified areas on the pattern. Bend the pieces of the template body into place, and then press the glued flaps down so they will hold. When you are pressing the glued flaps down, you should do the sides first in order to create a foundation for the dreidel. After the sides are glued down together, you need to glue the bottom flaps together and fold them so it forms a point. You need to leave the top of the paper unglued so you can punch a hole in the top flap. Once you have the hole punched in the top flap, you can then add your string or ribbon and glue the flaps onto the handle. After the top flaps are glued to the handle, you can then paste it to the top of the lid. The last step is to glue the top of the lid as shown in the template and you are done.

The paper dreidel is a very fun and simple craft your child can do, and the best part is that you do not have to spend any money making this craft. Since this craft is made with a free printable template, you can have your child create this craft as often as they want and you also can let your child make this craft for family during Hanukkah. As with all craft activities for Hanukkah, you should always supervise your children and make sure caution is used when scissors and glue are used. For the paper dreidel, you should also only use a thicker paper to print the template on or you can use transfer paper to transfer the template design onto a more durable paper.
