Hanukkah Movies: Eight Crazy Nights to Rugrats

"Festivus for the rest of us," might be good enough for some, but some still feel unsatisfied. Being Jewish, I can definitely say that while we are certainly over-represented in the industry, we are underrepresented in the product around the holidays. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate a good Christmas movie, but sometimes I want to watch a movie related to my holiday as we get closer to the holiday season. Since I'm sure I am not the only one, I have created a guide to Hanukkah movies.

First we come to Eight Crazy Nights. This is a story of a troubled man who is forced to stay with his former basketball coach Whitey and his sister. As the story moves on, we watch the young man turn from a horrible person into a decent, caring human being. This movie is certainly amusing. It's not my favorite of all time, but it is definitely entertaining.

If you have kids, you can watch the Rugrats Hannukah Special. This special is not just educational for the kids, but entertaining for the adults who love them. In this animated story, Grandma Minke tells the children the story of Hanukkah. Just as she finishes, Grandpa Boris finds out that he has been replaced in the Meaning of Hanukkah play he was in. The kids think they said the meanie of Hanukkah & go on a quest to defeat the meanie of hannukah. Cute and fun, this is a fun movie for the whole family.

Finally, my favorite movie on the list: The Hebrew Hammer. If you are easily offended, this is not for you, but if you have a good sense of humor you will love it. In this movie, Starring Adam Goldberg as the Hebrew Hammer, this is a story of a man on a mission mission is to save Hannukah from Santa's evil son, Damien, played by Andy Dick. Super-cool in his sleek vest and hat, the Hebrew Hammer struggles to save the day in an adventure that will leave you rolling on the floor.

As you can see, these movies are few and far between. Still, there are a few out there that do cater to us and maybe sometime soon, there will be more. For now, I am afraid we will have to just enjoy those movies that are out there while we light the candles.
