Happy 100th Birthday Ronald Reagan!

Adam Hughes
Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States, was born on February 6, 1911, and would have turned 100 this year had he lived. Like just about every other President, Reagan was a polarizing figure, but his popularity and approval ratings were generally outstanding during his two terms in office from 1980-1988. One of the iconic figures of the 80s, Reagan helped to define an era. Here are a few highlights from his Presidency:

January 20, 1981 - U.S. hostages in Iran releases as Reagan delivered his inaugural address.
March 30, 1981 - Reagan survives being shot in an assassination attempt.
August 5, 1981 - Reagan fires more than 11,000 striking air traffic controllers.
1981-1988 - "Reagonomics" helps reduce inflation from 12.5% to 4.4%.
1983 - Reagan sends U.S. troops into Lebanon and Grenada for peacekeeping campaigns.
1981-1988 - Reagan escalates the "Cold War" against the Soviet Union with his Reagan Doctrine and SDI.
1986 - Reagan officially launches America's "War on Drugs."
April 15, 1986 - Reagan bombs Libya in an attempt to limit their ability to support terrorism.
1986 - The Iran-Contra Affair, in which the U.S. sold arms to Iran in order to fun support of the Contras in Nicaragua, breaks as the major scandal of Reagan's administration.
June 12, 1987 - Reagan challenges Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall, which Gorby does two years later.

Happy Birthday, Dutch! America will never forget you.
