HAPPY ANNIVERSARY DEAR

Kathryn Neff Perry
Since my husband and I have conflicting schedules, we have to make an appointment to see each other. It's almost like dating.
"Let's see, could you work me in next Thursday afternoon?"
"Okay, then how about the next Thursday?"
And so it goes from week to week. On several occasions his day off turned out to be my busiest day, the day I didn't get home until 8:30 or 9:00 that night. We were becoming a family without him. He had no idea what any of us were doing.
For a while I wrote notes to him, but it was taking too long, and usually when I finally had time to write, I was fighting sleep.
Not too long ago he started getting up about 20 minutes earlier to spend some time with me in the morning before I left for work.
He started making me a cup of Suisse Mocha for me, and a cup of coffee for himself.
The other night was an unusually late night for him and because our anniversary was near, I wanted to do something special for him.
So that morning I made my own Suisse Mocha and his cup of coffee and had it waiting for him in the already sun-filled dining room.
He says it takes a good cup of coffee to wake him every morning.
He smiled at me and took a sip of the hot coffee. Then his eyes crossed and his lip curled.
"What? I made that coffee the same way I make my Suisse Mocha."
He tried to be nice. "I only put one teaspoon of coffee in a cup."
"Well, you've got enough for three cups then."
