I knew a lady tall, and fair,
A lady graced with soft brown hair,
A lady with a charming smile,
I knew for much too short a while.
We'd meet and we would talk
And now and then we'd take a walk.
I got to know her truly well,
Became a captive to her spell.
The time between is greater now,
But I have not forgotten how
My heart would sing a song anew
Whene'er she came within my view.
The days are slow as they slip by,
With one and two, three, four and five.
And now, it's June, the time of year.
When memories quickly reappear,
And inwardly, I warmly sigh,
And whisper, "Happy Birthday dear."
