Happy and Healthy Feet

Nova Rose
Happy Feet is not just a movie, it is also a health issue. Recently I visited the podiatrist to discuss what I could do about cracks in my feet. Not only did he give me some great tips on getting rid of cracks and keeping my feet healthy, he also pointed out that this problem could stem from thyroid disease and other health issues. Luckily for me, I just happened to have dry skin and only needed additional techniques for keeping my feet supple and smooth.

Having healthy feet not only makes you an agreeable bed mate, it is also great for your self esteem. We depend on our feet a lot, so it is only kind to return the favor and treat them good. Here are some simple tips for keeping those feet feeling happy.

Think comfort over style

We love to buy cute shoes with high heels that make our feet look sexy. We have all seen the divas shopping in the grocery store in their stilettos on a Saturday morning, while we just want to shrink away and hide in our sneakers. However, there is a time and place for everything and the stilettos have their time.

When you shop for shoes, look for comfort, something that will make your feet feel like they are smiling. Think of the Doctor Scholl's ads, "Are you gellin'?" Depending on the weather that you live in, the time of year and your skin type, you may want to think about whether to buy closed heels, closed toes or open shoes.

Soak your feet!

Okay, you may not be able to afford $25 per week for a pedicure but you can easily do this at home.

Invest in a foot bath. You can get one for $29.99 at Bed Bath and Beyond that will produce bubbles and massage your feet.

Use Johnson's foot soap to soak your feet for 10 minutes and then apply a foot scrub with eucalyptus to give your feet that fresh, minty feel.

You can buy a pedegg in Target for $10. Use it to remove the dead skin.

Wash you feet in fresh water.

Your feet will love you!Make them feel soft and supple

A good way to have those feet skipping is to use A. Aaron's Urea Cream on your feet before bed and in the morning, then wear closed heel shoes. Another cheap way to get softer feet is to rub them with Petroleum Jelly or Eucerin Aquaphor Ointment, wrap them in Saran wrap and sleep in socks. Your feet will be so supple when you awake, you will want to stay in bed all day!

Massage your feet

If you cannot guilt your spouse into giving you a foot rub, you can buy a massage roller and do them yourself. Concentrate on the areas that hurt the most. You can also use your thumbs and concentrate on the pressure points.

These are just a few tips to keeping your feet healthy and happy. Try them often and your feet will treat you good!
