Happy Hour: The Biggest TV Character Drinkers

Victoria Leigh Miller
Got scotch? These television characters do. While we're not making light of heavy drinking, these TV series regulars definitely liked to throw back a few. And sometimes a few more. Here's our list of some of the biggest TV character drinkers- town drunks not included.

Jules Cobb and her Friends, "Cougar Town" - We love seeing Courteney Cox back on a sitcom where she belongs. But since leaving her old Central Perk hangout, things have changed for this former 'Friend."Cox's "Cougar Town" character, Jules, is a red wino. Jules and her pals get together on what seems like a daily basis to shoot the breeze over a bottle of Cab. They even played a game of "Wine and Spy" in one episode. Is that anything like Drink and Dial?
Drink of Choice: Red wine

Dan Conner, "Roseanne"- Yeah, Rosie's hubby (played by John Goodman) could put away some beer back in the day. Be it popping open a cold one and vegging on the couch after a long day at work or taking his wife out for some brews at The Lobo Lounge, Dan was just a working class guy who liked his Bud.
Drink of Choice: Beer

Larry Tate, "Bewitched" - In this 1960s sitcom, advertising boss Larry Tate (played by David White) liked to make frequent pit stops at his go-to creative guy, Darrin Stephens', house. And he always headed straight to the bar where he proceeded to pour himself something-anything-on the rocks. Of course Darrin liked to imbibe too, but at least we never saw him sloshed. Or maybe we did - we always thought his strange behavior was just from one of Endora's spells, but you never know.
Drink of choice: Martini

Don Draper /Roger Sterling, "Mad Men"- What is it about advertising execs in the 60s? This "Mad Men" creative duo specialized in high stress office meetings while downing whiskey. And this was before lunch. While at one point Don Draper attempted to quit drinking, he never entirely gave it up. Perhaps he should have so he could make better life choices.
Drink of choice: Rye Old Fashioned

The Walker Family, "Brothers and Sisters" - Yes, I know they own a vineyard. Does that mean this family has to open a bottle of wine just to talk about the weather? Every time matriarch Nora (Sally Field) opens the fridge in her gorgeous kitchen, there's an already-open bottle of Chardonnay in there. And then she doles out jumbo-size glasses to all of her neurotic kids. Guess she needs someone to drink with.
Drink of Choice: Walker Landing wine

Norm Peterson, "Cheers"- You know you drink a lot when you have a reserved seat at the bar. That's Norm, the regular who likes to guzzle his beer and gossip with the gang at his fave Boston hangout, Cheers.
Drink of choice: Whatever's on tap.

Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, Charlotte York and Samantha Jones, "Sex and the City" - Although sex-fiend Samantha seemed to be the ringleader when it came to partying, these girls couldn't get together without popping open a bottle of something (unless they were out shoe shopping). From sipping on cosmos to a uncorking a good bottle of vino, this foursome drank plenty of empty calories.
Drink of choice: Cosmopolitans

Karen Walker, "Will and Grace"- This narcissistic rich girl character (played by Megan Mullally) had a drinking problem, no question. Of course her incredibly shrill voice was enough to drive anybody to drink so go figure.
Drink of choice: Manhattan; anything with alcohol in it
