Happy Mother's Day: A Poem

Rushelle O'Shea
How many times I've overlooked
All the things you've done for me
Protecting me from harmful things and, sometimes,
Protecting me from me.
Yes, I was a troublemaker and my mother, a saint.

My mother is an amazing woman
Only it's taken me a while to see it
Typical of most kids, I was always so stubborn
Her words of wisdom? I didn't want to hear it
Even when I knew she was right, I still wanted to balk
Rebeling everything, right to the end.
She stood firm and guided me though, my mother and my friend.

Don't always know how to say this, Mum
All the things that I've wanted to say:
You've helped me to grow and I love you so!

Happy Mother's Day!

This is wonderful and I'm sure lots of us can identify with this. Great job!

Thank you very much. Yes, I know I went to visit my mother one day and she had a picture of a toucan that I had drawn her, back when I was about 10 years old, hanging up on her bedroom wall. She'd framed it and everything. I didn't even know she'd kept it all this time!

Thank you for your kind comment :)

Nicely done. Had I written this for or about my own mother, she's have been pleased. She still has a poem I wrote for her on Mothers Day about 25 years ago on her wall... It matters to them.
