Happy Retirement?

What to Expect when You Retire

Linang
Recently my best friend sent me an entertaining but thought-arousing article on life after retirement. (Unfortunately the original author of this article is not mentioned.) This article contains some questions and answers about the retirees. Along with each question comes a visual mischievous picture that shows the funny side of a retiree's life. I am not going to show the pictures here, just visualize what you would do in that particular situation of the questions mentioned below. Let me just quote 12 rather heart warming ones here. I would add in some comments or thoughts after each question. Similarly I do hope all you retirees (and going- to- be- retirees) out there response by searching your soul and give some of your thoughts too.

Question 1: How many days in a week for a retiree?

Answer : Six Saturdays and one Sunday.

My comment: So the whole week is just a very long weekend!

Question 2: When is a retiree's bedtime?

Answer : Three hours after he falls asleep on a couch.

My comment: Many retirees actually sleep less after retirement.

Question 3: How many retirees take to change a light bulb?

Answer : Only one. But it may take all day.

My comment: As we get older, we become slower and clumsier. Can anyone think of something that retirees do better than a young person other than giving tons of something called ADVICE?

Question 4: what is the biggest gripe of retirees?

Answer : There is not enough time to get everything done.

My comment: And sometimes too much time and nothing to do!

Question 5: Why don't retirees mind being called seniors?

Answer : The term comes with a 10% discount.

My comment: Does the term come with some respect too?

Question 6: To retirees what is considered as formal attire?

Answer : Tied shoes.

My comment: Bending down is an effort for some and simple actions often getting complex, confusing and chaotic as we age. However many retirees do take trouble to make themselves presentable.

Question 7: Why do retirees count penny?

Answer : They are the ones who have time.

My comment: And not enough money too!

Question 8: What is the common term for someone who enjoys work and refuses to retire?

Answer : NUTS!

My comment: To each his own, they may be workaholics and not nuts! One gentleman I know says that to ask him to retire is to tell him to stay at home and wait for death.

Question 9: Why is a retiree so slow to clean the basement, attire or garage?

Answer : They know that as soon as they do, one of the adult kids will want to store stuff there.

My comment: I do agree with this one. Many retirees are kicked out of their master-bedrooms as soon as one of the adult kids gets married!

Question 10: What is the best way to describe a Retirement?

Answer : The never ending coffee break.

My comment: For some it is a long vacation. For some others, another phase of life ended.

Question 11: What does a retiree do all week?

Answer : Monday to Friday, nothing, Saturday and Sunday, rest.

My comment: Do you include gardening, reading, writing, knitting, etc as nothing? Of course retirees don't have dead-lines to meet and crucial work to complete.

Question 12: What is the biggest advantage of going back to school as a retiree?

Answer : If you cut classes, no one calls your parents.

My comment: You have to pay your own fees too!

Fellow retirees, do look at life with some humor and have a good laugh when facing those awkward times, remarks or situations we may come across in our retirement years!
