The name Happy Sumo says it all when it comes to enjoying great Japanese hibachi and sushi. The first time I visited the Happy Sumo Japanese's Steak and Sushi bar in Dunwoody, Georgia I tried the traditional Hibachi styled meal with chicken and filet for lunch. The meal came with salad, steamed rice and fried vegetables. The meat was cooked perfectly and the hibachi rice was phenomenal!

There is something about the taste of food cooked on the grill hibachi style that gives it a taste that so out shines the traditional preparation on a stove or oven. I think it's the blend of seasonings with all the ingredients that are prepared on the same surface that kind of have this wonderful marriage and when you put it in your mouth, those flavors just kind of explode and make such a sweet melody.

When you first enter the Happy Sumo in Dunwoody, there is a little happy round statue of a sumo greeting you at the door the Sumo statue is reminiscent of a Buddha, but it's a Sumo dressed in his traditional garb. The restaurant has an area where you can sit at the sushi bar and see your meal prepared right in front of you or you can dine at tables near the bar. The Happy Sumo has various choices of sushi from raw to cooked. Some of my favorite Sushi is the eel, tuna, Spider Roll and Volcano Crunch. The raw sushi is some of the freshest I've tasted and the cooked sushi always has the most unique sauces that include spicy or sweet or a combination of both.

The lunch menu boasts options of combination meals prepared traditionally or on the grill (Hibachi) which is my favorite. You have a choice of chicken and filet or salmon and shrimp or any combination you choose from. The combination meals come with the salad which consists of a mix of fresh garden greens, tomatoes, carrots, cucumber with ginger or peanut dressing. I typically get the filet and chicken combo or the vegetarian which comes with associated vegetables. However you can request tofu if you'd like a little more substance in your meal.

The Happy Sumo is right in the middle of lots of shopping and just a few miles away from a movie theater. The Happy Sumo has two locations: One in Norcross and my favorite in Dunwoody. The Dunwoody location is 1155-A Mount Vernon Highway.

The bottom line: Great food, Great location and the price point s are between $3.50 to $15 for lunch and $7 to $22 for dinner. The Happy Sumo will leave you and your family feeling happy and satisfied!
