Happy Valentine Daze - Wake Up to Love
Awake from Your Self-Imposed Stupor and Celebrate Your Moment in Eternity
Hear it? Is it a death knell or a resurrection anthem? You can make it either, or something in-between, or less or more. Keyword is "you." You live your life.
Within you, by you, of you - it's you. Go hard, go soft, go apathetic, go apologetic, go ballistic: it's you. Make no mistake or excuses about it, your life is you. And what you do with it is - undeniably, unequivocally - up to you.
In the club vernacular of first decade, 21st Century, Paramore, a pop rock, power pop group out of Tennessee, has nailed it. Paramore's "Crush Crush Crush" [video] is so, so right for the ring tone of Hallmark's seasonal hugs-n-kisses, phone-around, love fest this February 14, 2008 - "our" Valentine's Day. (The tune would make it good on the alarm clock circuit, too. No lying in bed when that baby goes off...)
Crush Crush Crush embodies the desperate cloying angst of the about 20-somethings grieving for the death of the emotional connection they hope will live forever - if they ever found it, will ever find it, or would know it, if they did.
Yes - hope. For underlying Crush Crush Crush is what drives all of us - hope. Remember when you had hope?
Did you lose it somewhere back there in the 20th Century when you were a 20-something? It's still there - go back and get it...it's been waiting for your return. And what better day to redeem your hope than Valentine's Day, 2008?
Have a Happy Valentine's Day, Sleeping Beauty. Go get your Paramour. Go get your Hope.

"Crush Crush Crush" Lyrics
by Paramore (official website)
lead singer Hayley Williams
I got a lot to say to you-
Yeah, I got a lot to say,
I noticed your eyes are always glued to me
Keepin' `em here and it makes no sense at all
They taped over your mouth
Scribbled out the truth with their lies
Your little spies
They taped over your mouth
Scribbled out the truth with their lies
Your little spies
Crush Crush Crush Crush Crush
Nothing compares to
The quiet evening alone
Just the one, two
I was just counting on
That never happened
I guess I'm dreamin' again
Let's be more than this
If you wanna play it like a game
Well, come on, come on, lets play
Cause I'd rather waste my life pretending
Than have to forget you for one whole minute
They taped over your mouth
Scribbled out the truth with their lies
Your little spies
They taped over your mouth
Scribbled out the truth with their lies
Your little spies
Crush Crush Crush Crush Crush
Nothing compares to
The quiet evening alone
Just the one, two
I was just counting on
That never happened
I guess I'm dreamin' again
Let's be more than this now-
Rock and roll, baby
Don't you know that we're all alone now?
I need somethin' to sing about
Rock and roll, honey
Don't you know, baby, we're all alone now?
I need somethin' to sing about
Rock and roll honey
Don't you know, baby,we're all alone now?
Gimme somethin' to sing about
Nothing compares to
The quiet evening alone
Just the one, two
I was just counting on
That never happened
I guess I'm dreamin' again
Let's be more than this
Nooo
Nothing compares to
The quiet evening alone
Just the one, two
I was just counting
That never happened
I guess I'm dreamin' again
Let's be more than
More than this oh oooohhhhh
ooooooooooooooooooooooh...

Post a CommentATTENTION! I have been alerted that the video link provided in the initial article submission for "Paramore's 'Crush Crush Crush' has been removed. For the moment, an alternate link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ei8hPkyJ0bU . [Edit/copy and edit/paste into your browser URL Address box.] (I would offer this on one of my servers (smile), but being an ISP or a Warner Bros. subsidiary isn't one of my core businesses.) The video of Paramore's performance in the desert compliments and integrates with this article. No other video does. Find it; it's worth it. Good luck, Michael
Once again, your words are romantic, melodic and inspirational.... I do remember "hope" and pray I never forget. Thank you Micheal for reminding us.
great job i enjoyed it and hope you had a great valentines day
I guess I'm what you call and old fogey. I don't want to work that hard to figure out what their saying. I think I'll stick with Elvis!
happy valentines day...enjoyed this..:)
(grin) ...not 'smoking' anything (whatever do you mean?) As a charter member of the "50 is the new 30, 60 is the new 40" club, I just closed my eyes, turned the speakers down, and listened to the life pulse of Crush Crush Crush. From that perspective, in the context of my AC article, it does ring true for the 20-somethings now and us when we were 20-somethings. I don't think we club members have to lose the ardor and drive we had in the 20th Century (smile). [btw: I got "turned on" to the tune by my 21-year old son - see, different generations can talk (smile) to each other.] Happy Valentine's Day, "Grits"
What have you been smoking? Oh, I forgot. These are really song lyrics these days. Excuse me.
