Well, the tools that were stolen from me were mostly Craftsman or other top brand tools. I do not buy the cheapo stuff because I am an avid off-road enthusiast, and when you are on a trail somewhere, miles from civilization, you better have tools that can stand up to whatever you give them should you or someone else break.
I did not have the money to tail down to Sears and just replace all my good stuff, so I did the next best thing: I went to Harbor Freight Tools. They carry a line of tools by the name of Pittsburgh that I feel really makes a good alternative to the really expensive units.
I spent around $150.00 to replace approximately $400.00 worth of name-brand tools, and really did not do too badly! The socket set I got was not as in-depth as the one I lost, but all the components seem to be of a very high quality.
I got hammers, saws, an entire end wrench set, a tool bag (for the trail), humongous slip-joint pliers and a great big adjustable wrench with a nice rubber handle - heck, I got something from just about every isle of the place.
Harbor Freight Tools has a reputation among those who are `in the know`, and that is carrying cheap, unreliable tools. The trick to buying at Harbor Freight Tools is to buy the most expensive stuff they have, which is still a fraction of the cost of the same tool in a popular name brand. None of the tools I have ever purchased there have failed on me, if they were the most expensive of all the choices.
I currently weld with an auto-darkening helmet from Harbor Freight Tools, and it has never let me down, either. In fact, they carry welders and all the accessories, as well. Almost literally, if you can think of it, Harbor Freight Tools has it. It is the best bang for your buck out there.

Post a CommentDear Mr. Bob: Pittsburgh branded tools at HFT have a lifetime warranty, and they honor it! You really needto improve your reading comprehension skills!
Also, when a robbery happens, you NEED to make a police report, and can file a claim on your home insurance if it tops the deductable.
BUT, notify all the pawn shops that you will want your property returned!
Then, too, watch eBay and Craigslist for the thief!
Harbor freight is a great place if you know what to look for. Unfortunately their prices have all but doubled in the last year. Still good deals but instead of chancing $10 for a would-be good tool you may be out $20 now if it turns out to be junk.
Oh well, where else to go?
Harbor freight does have some decent deals. I have bought items from them, but have never needed to try the sockets or wrenches.
Good deal!
