Think about it: when you cut your finger, the wound bleeds, scabs over and creates scar tissue without you having to do anything to help the process. When the body's wisdom is disrupted, it loses the ability to function properly and therefore it cannot heal. These disruptions come in many forms, such as our emotions, our food or the environment. With the constant barrage of attacks on our health in these times, the body loses the synchronicity of its parts. BodyTalk is a means of restoring the linkages between those systems so that the body may once again function on its natural level of wisdom. There are four phases to the BodyTalk method.
Gaining the body's permission. In order for BodyTalk to be effective, a relationship of respect must be established between the practitioner and the body of the person being treated. The practitioner obtains yes or no answers using muscle biofeedback. For example, the practitioner places her hand on the patient's arm and asks a a question, in this case, "Do I have permission to begin?" If the muscles of the arm relax, that means yes; if they remain tense, it means no. The patient is often not aware of this muscle activity.
Locating the source of the problem. Once the body grants permission, the practitioner continues using muscle testing to narrow down the body systems and organs causing the problem. A chart labeled "Bodytalk Protocol" is referred to, which the practitioner systematically runs through in order to gain information from the patient's body. Typically, when the practitioner says the name of a system or organ that is problematic, the body will give its positive indication.
Restoring the body's linkages. When the problem areas have been identified, the practitioner places the patient's hand over that organ and places her own hand on the corresponding reflex point on the body. This is the link that needs to be reestablished in order for the problem organ to return to its normal functioning.
Tapping and Breathing. With the disrupted linkages identified, the practitioner will then begin tapping the person lightly on his or her head and sternum. Tapping the head brings the brain's attention to the linkage that needs to be repaired, and tapping the sternum allows the heart to acknowledge the link and make it permanent. During the tapping sequence, the patient takes two long, cleansing breaths to bring the entire body's awareness to the reestablished link.
The last three phases of the procedure may have to be repeated until all the body's linkages are restored. It is often the case that we fail to seek help until a situation has become exacerbated. But keep in mind that the kind of help that we seek is just as important as the fact that we seek it when we need it. Always be aware that there are other options. It's not always necessary to resort to artificially manufactured pharmaceuticals! In the long run, they compound the body's imbalance because they seek to do what the body already knows how to do. Heal.
