Harrah's Casino Tries Its Hand at Poker

The Harrah's Casino Poker Room Has Some Nice Staff

If you have watched any of the World Series of Poker over the last three years, then you understand who Harrah's is. By the looks of their sponsorship of the big time event, one might think that they rule the roost in Las Vegas poker. That actually is not the case, as the Harrah's poker room opened at the Harrah's hotel only three years ago. When they got the sponsorship rights to the famous poker tournament, the hotel and entertainment company decided to capitalize on their name recognition by opening the room. Now, three years later, it looks like this poker room is finally becoming popular. I went there because they were the only poker room that was guaranteed to have the game on that I wanted. I was not disappointed.

The poker room at Harrah's sits where the old sportsbook used to sit. For anyone who knows anything about Las Vegas casino setups, this means that the poker room is equipped with the best television capability on the entire strip. A large projection screen and many more flatscreen televisions allow players to watch pretty much any game that they wish. Because of this fact alone, many people make a visit to this poker room.

The poker room has an unusual setup as compared to the rest of the rooms in Las Vegas. While most rooms like to use the noise of the casino to lure players out into the play, Harrah's encloses its poker area with glass to block out the noise from the casino floor. While this detracts some from the overall atmosphere, it does make for much more concentrated poker play. Strangely, this poker room is one of the only Las Vegas poker rooms to have a working clock.

Harrah's offers the normal poker games that many of the Las Vegas casinos offer. The most popular game is the $1/$2 no-limit game, but higher limit games are often available. The play is generally a good mix of good and bad players. This poker room is not necessarily noted for its quality among players. Instead, people generally take note of the fantastic atmosphere in which players can play.

The staff at Harrah's is a good one, but they might want to look into hiring some more attractive cocktail waitresses. The ladies that they currently employ are not exactly easy on the eyes and many are overweight. This could be a ploy to keep players focused on the game, but it doesn't seem to resonate well with most of the players that I know. The management, however, does a nice job of keeping the games running smoothly and dealing with any problems.

My trip to Harrah's was a good one. With the many televisions, decent quality of play, and above average service, they elevated to being one of my favorite poker rooms in all of Las Vegas. If you have a chance or your need to watch a game, be sure to head to Harrah's.

  • Unusual setup
  • Friendly staff
  • Lots of weak players
The poker room at Harrah's is actually a roped off area of the casino.
