The check presentation will be held 11:30 a.m. in the Mosaic Room at Harrah's Joliet Hotel and Casino (151 Joliet Rd., Joliet). ASLF founder Dr. Sandy Goldberg, ASLF board members and Harrah's Foundation board directors will all be in attendance for the check presentation. The organization's first donation to ASLF was $5,000 in February 2007, followed by $3,000 in August 2007.
"Thanks to this generous donation from Harrah's Foundation, ASLF's programs will continue to provide those in need with much-needed cancer resource information and treatment options and access to timely testing." said Goldberg. "The grant will be used to fund screening mammograms and diagnostic testing for medically underserved patients."
ASLF's Chicagoland Cancer Information Coalition program is comprised of several major cancer advocacy organizations that provide information and education about cancer prevention, resource availability and treatment options. ASLF's BUY A MOM A MAMMOGRAMâ„¢ program provides access to and funding for mammograms of women who cannot afford them. Since the program's inception in 2006, more than 1,000 women have received information and access to screening mammograms in a timely and respectful fashion. Funding for follow-up diagnostic testing was added in April 2007.
Since A Silver Lining Foundation was launched in 2002 as a 501(c)3 charitable organization by Dr. Sandy Goldberg, the organization has provided more than 400,000 people with information about cancer resources, treatment options and support services. Through the organization's programs, services and personal support, the foundation strives to provide access to cancer related information and testing to medically underserved people in a warm and attentive manner. The organization strives to perpetuate the philosophy of Dr. Goldberg's late mother: "We are all family and we have to help each other through the tough times. There is, for everyone, a silver lining."
