Harry & David Holiday Spice Tea Soothes Sore Throats

A Holiday Tea Blend, Good as a Beverage or as a Home Remedy

Zachary Fruhling
This winter I came down with a severe sore throat, during which I had a sharp throbbing pain down in my throat. It hurt to swallow, to breathe, and to talk. During this illness, the only thing that would adequately soothe my sore throat was Harry & David Holiday Spice Tea by The Republic of Tea.

Although my wife originally purchased this tea for the holiday season, I used it as a homeopathic remedy for my sore throat. Although other hot beverages (including other teas and even a hot toddy) were somewhat effective in soothing my sore throat, only the Holiday Spice Tea by Harry & David soothed my sore throat completely, leaving my throat temporarily and completely painless. I used a small quantity of German rock sugar from Teavana, and a small amount of skim milk, in my Holiday Spice Tea, which helped to coat my throat and increase the soothing time of my sore throat home remedy.

In addition to the fact that Harry & David Holiday Spice Tea soothes sore throats, it is also a delicious holiday spice tea. This tea blend's ingredients include black tea, cinnamon, cloves, licorice root, and dried apple pieces. I am not sure which ingredient is most responsible for the sore throat soothing properties, but it is presumably the licorice root or the cloves. But regardless, this blend of ingredients creates a tea that invokes a feeling of holiday warmth, mirth, and merriment. You could spice up this tea even further by adding a cinnamon stick or some nutmeg, but the blend of ingredients in the Harry & David Holiday Spice Tea is robust and peppery as-is.

The Harry & David Holiday Spice Tea requires several minutes to steep fully. When I was using this tea as a sore throat remedy, I could barely stand to wait several minutes to allow the tea to steep; but as a beverage you should let the Holiday Spice Tea steep between three to five minutes (according to the directions on the package). Increased steeping time allows the spices and dried fruit pieces to hydrate and for their oils to infuse into the tea water. It may take some experimentation to discover how long you prefer this tea to steep, depending on how spicy and flavorful you like a spiced tea such as this tea.

In conclusion, if you come down with a sore throat this flu season, do yourself a favor and pick up a tin of Harry & David Holiday Spice Tea. With a dash of sugar and milk, this spiced tea can completely soothe even a severe sore throat. In addition, this spiced holiday tea is a delicious tea blend for the holiday season. It is a seasonal blend, so be sure to pick some up before the winter turns to springtime. And be sure to serve this tea with a high-quality sugar and some milk to taste. I am not sure why this tea was so successful in soothing my sore throat, but it is the only home remedy that provided genuine relief for my bad sore throat this flu season.
