Today popular author of the Harry Potter books, J.K Rowling, announced that she will be doing a US book tour after the release of the seventh and final Harry Potter book, 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'. The author made the announced through her own website, J.K Rowling.com.

The Harry Potter book tour will take place in October, so fans will have plenty of time to read the final book and re-read the previous books before the event takes place. The J.K. Rowling book tour will take place in three US cities and include four events. The cities that will be lucky enough to host a visit by J.K Rowling are Los Angeles, New Orleans and New York.

The first three events will be for local school children in each of the cities, with the final event being open to all Harry Potter fans. The final open event will have a limited number of places and tickets will be awarded via a contest to be held by the US publisher of the Harry Potter books Scholastic.

Each of the events will have the same format. J.K Rowling will treat fans to a live reading from the seventh and final book, 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'. Fans will also have the chance to ask J.K Rowling questions about all of the books in the Harry Potter series. This time the author won't have to be mysterious about her answers, an opportunity that thousands of US Harry Potter fans would love to have. Lastly fans will have the chance to get their Harry Potter books signed by J.K. Rowling.

The first event for school children will take place in Los Angeles at the Kodak Theatre on the 15th of October. The second school children's event will be held in New Orleans on the 18th of October. The third and final event for school children will be held in New York City on the 19th of October, taking place at Carnegie Hall.

At the start of the upcoming school year, US publisher of the Harry Potter books, Scholastic, will be choosing the lucky schools that will be able to send children to the event. Adding to the fun each school will be given its own Sorting Hat. The school will then be able to put all the children's names into the hat where they will be drawn out at random and the lucky children awarded a trip to the J.K. Rowling book event.

The fourth and final event on J.K Rowling's book tour will take place on October 19th in New York City. This event will be held in the evening at Carnegie Hall and begin at 7pm. 1000 lucky fans will win two tickets from Scholastic to attend the event. This event is open to all fans, young and old.

The contest for the for the final event can be entered via the Scholastic website. The contest for this event will open on the 30th of July.

In a press release put out today about the event by US publisher of the Harry Potter books this was said by Lisa Holton, President, Scholastic Trade and Book Fairs, "What J.K. Rowling loves most is to talk with her readers, and that is what she will be able to do on this very special U.S. tour," "Almost three months after the publication of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows', Rowling will engage in lively conversations with her fans in each of the three cities she will visit, seeking to once again experience touring the way it all began ten years ago and the way she most enjoys ... with a book, an author, and her readers"

Somehow I picture some adults slipping their names into that Sorting Hat. ;) Thanks for the article--and this U.S. tours seems almost like a concert what with the venues being Carnegie Hall and the Kodak Theatre. Someone should record the Carnegie Hall one for posterity on a DVD or CD...because it truly is history as well as bringing the Harry Potter books full circle. If that were done, it'd be the first time a book reading could potentially become a bestseller on DVD or CD. But J.K. Rowling has obviously brought a lot of firsts to the book and overall media world.

bluehorseshoe: the book will make exceedingly large amounts of money. Future discounts are always factored in with publishing deals to get more people to buy books. Also, many bookstores don't offer a discount on the book at all -- it just depends if you buy through amazon.com, etc. My personal opinion is that it's a benefit to schools because it gets children excited about reading. In today's world, this is a marvel.
