Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Box Office Broke Record for Midnight Showing

Harry Potter box office numbers are showing record breaking results. The Harry Potter box office for the midnight showing has broken the all time record for a midnight showing. So far, the Harry Potter box office results show that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince brought in $22.2 million already. That means that the Harry Potter box office for just the midnight showings on Tuesday night have already made $22.2 million. That number alone makes it clear that the Harry Potter box office results for the full opening weekend could end up being staggering in their totals.

The Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince box office numbers are simply amazing, and have really set a new standard for how much money that a major film can earn in midnight showings. It used to be that films would have sporadic midnight showings, and that it might be hard to find a theater that was willing to do it. Now it has started to become an event in itself, where fans flock to be the first in the neighborhood to see the newest blockbuster. It worked really well for films like Sex and the City, The Dark Knight, and Transformers 2, and now Harry Potter 6 has shown that this is also a franchise that can spell success for those late night theaters.

According to a press release obtained by CNN, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opened with a midnight showing on more than 2,700 sold out screens. That is an amazing number of screens showing a midnight feature film, and even more impressive is just how many of the theaters showing Harry Potter 6 were able to sell out all their seats. The excitement level is just going to create even more buzz as the weekend draws near, and is really setting up the latest Harry Potter film to be an immense success. There was no doubt that people would turn out to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but it would have been hard to guess that a family film would make so much money this quickly.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince broke the record of $18 million that The Dark Knight had earned on its opening night, in final numbers that weren't even close. Now Harry Potter 6 will try and track down Transformers 2 for the highest grossing movie in 2009, and with such a great start, that could be possible by the end of the summer. The film has other goals in sight though, as if Harry Potter 6 can pass $500 million worldwide, it will catch up to the James Bond franchise as the highest earning film series in the history of cinema.
