Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Will be Two Films

The final Harry Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will be split into two separate films, the LA Times reported today. This will bring the total movie count in the Harry Potter to eight films in all. Warner Bros. is slating the two films, simply called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, to be released in November 2010 and May 2011.

Back to helm these final two films in the massively successful franchise will be director David Yates, who started his Harry Potter career with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and will continue through to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II. The films will be filmed concurrently, meaning they will be filmed all at once, similar to the path New Line took with the Lord of the Rings trilogy. This will give the films more consistency and them to be released so close together. Another important return to the behind the scenes Harry Potter family is Steve Kloves, which will bring his screenwriting talent to seven of the eight Harry Potter films.

The news of splitting Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows into two films has Harry Potter fans torn. Some fans are screaming fowl, claiming the producers and Warner Bros. are just trying to cash in on an even bigger payday. These arguments strike me as a little odd, considering how many Harry Potter fans were upset that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which is the longest book in the series weighing in just under one thousand pages, was only one film instead of two. Other devoted Harry Potter fans praise this decision, saying this is the only way to do the final film in their beloved series any true justice.

The internet and message boards are abuzz after this news, which is to be expected. Speculation on the reasons behind this decision range almost as much as opinions from Harry Potter fans on the decision itself. There are two theories that predominately rise to the top. One is that producers are simply answering to cries from fans after Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was only one installment. The other is that cuts cannot be made to the final Harry Potter film without compromising the story and key plot points.

well, concerning the last comment before this one. If you read the 6th book, you'd understand why there is not much action going on in the 6th movie. the whole book is about important dialogs between heroes, i think David Yates did a very good job and kept movie funny and interesting with all the love scenes. otherwise it would be very boring just listening to all those talks only. but still, i think there was much left out... a pity... and the 5th movie also had much of the book not covered

i love the harry potter movies, and i hope that harry potter and the deathly hollows will be better than the harry potter that just came out. seems to me like it was just a bunch of love sick teeny bopper crap.. i guess it is to be expected but then again, what do i know. I dont see why people would be upset about the movie splitting in to 2 movies, that just means another harry potter to look forward to.

I would have liked to have seen all of the movies from Order of the Phoenix on include more from the books. Pleased that the last book will be two movies.

Its the greatest moment in history!!!!! There should actually be three films, for those who have not read the last book, do so. Two is not enough, there is so much going and the action is like Matrix times 3.

    All hail J.K.!!!!!!!

Sounds like they listened to the fans one movie too late. Or, they're just bummed because the cash train is almost done running.
