Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2 Release Dates

Warner Bros. Plan for the Last Two Harry Potter Movies

Kim Keason

Harry Potter fans have long been waiting for the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It was a disappointment that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince's release date was pushed back from November 21, 2008 to July 15, 2009. This change made Harry Potter fans wait and additional eight months for the sixth movie in the series. The two years between the releases of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the longest wait that fans had to endure between any of the movies.

Warner Bros. movie studio moved the date to increase their summer movie release schedule claiming that "We know the summer season is an ideal window for a family ... release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film," said Warner Bros. president Alan Horn.

Warner Bros. Studios also claim that this move will not impact the release dates of the next two Harry Potter films: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The studio broke J. K. Rowlings last book in the Harry Potter series into two movies citing that the book could not be put into just one movie.

Filming for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows reportedly started in February of 2009. Both films will be shot back-to-back as if these are just one film.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I

The last four movies in the Harry Potter series are all directed by David Yates. David Yates announced that the final scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II is set 20 years in the future but he will not recast older actors to play the main characters stating that "There's something extraordinary about the audience's knowledge of them when they were this high and then seeing them where they are 38. There's something really beautiful about that circle, so it has to be them. I think if after seven or eight movies, we recast them in that last scene - we all thought, 'No way, we can't do that'."

The release dates of the last two Harry Potter films are eight months apart. These two films will be released much closer to each other than any of the previous Harry Potter movies. Fans of the books are wondering where the break between the films will be. What cliff-hanger will await movie-goers in November of 2010 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I?

Would you believe I've never seen a Harry Potter movie yet!? Just haven't been interested enough...but will have to one day.

The Hollows part 1 and 2 almost sounds like the old Flash Gordon Saturday Afternoon series at the movies. I'm not a solid Potter fan but still marvel at the wonderfully real world JK Rollings created for her very 3 dimensional characters. I'm sad to say, I wrote fiction but the only fiction books I read for pleasure were Atlas Shrugged and The Shining. I started Potter series but got distracted.

I loved Half-Blood Prince (the movie), and can't wait for these last 2 in the series. The books are better than the movies, of course. Smart article topic!

I wasn't overly impressed with Half Blood Prince. But it was interesting that it had some stuff the book didn't.

Wow, didn't know it was going to be a two parter. Guess they are dragging this out for as long as they can.
